This is probably for the best. The fact that y’all think letting corporations sell your data to government entities is fly because this specific instance aligns with a conservative talking point. The fact is NONE of these apps should be allowed to sell data like they do, regardless of the country of the developer.

Is this the reason even being cited for the ban? I don't think we know anything at all about what TikTok does, if it does anything at all, with user data for commercial purposes. The boogeyman here is the claim that American user data will be used for digital warfare by the Chinese government. :deadbanana4:

Edit - Not people getting mass-downvoted for hot takes and then going through and downvoting posts of anyone who down-voted them even if their post has nothing to do with them:

It's been 24 hours since they rolled the feature out :deadbanana4:

The way every thread about TikTok is steeped in vile sinophobic reactions while American companies have shown themselves to be far more pernicious. :biblio:

I do not understand it. Is it okay for a company to steal and sell your data as long as that company exists in your home country? It feels very hypocritical.

I would be worried more about the US having my data than China. What is China going to do with your data? The Chinese government does not have power or control over American citizens, but the US government does.

I read that this ban does not affect individual users, just app stores that allow for the sale/downloading of the app. How hard would it be to take just download the app while you are out of state? This seems unenforceable and just virtue signaling.
