She was wrong for those comments, tho. OT: I have yet to hear it, but this latest scandal of hers has left a sour taste in my mouth, tbh. Edited September 7, 2023 by NickAurora
Kern Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 What Not To Do - I'm so glad this track sounds nothing like the released remix because that one was not giving lol. Badass, intriguing opening.

acidbb Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 My review on Hit Parade by Róisín Terfy: I’ve decided to take a break from my break from AOTY to review one of the albums I was most excited about this year: Róisín Terfy returns with her sixth studio album, releasing a set of songs that are often very colorful but lack efficiency and progression. Terfy truly amazed me with her previous record Róisín Machine: it’s an insanely produced disco record with jams like “We Got Together,” “Simulation,” “Something More,” “Murphy’s Law”… the atmosphere on these tracks is truly something to behold. Unfortunately I feel like although Hit Parade is a way weirder record, its quirky embellishments are oftentimes just used to disguise how bland and one-note some of the tracks are. This doesn't take away how enjoyable this record overall is though. The album starts off with a fantastic opener. “What Not To Do” is truly that ***** with its dark, brooding progression. It’s definitely a track that grabs you immediately and stands out in comparison with the other tracks here given how light and summery the rest of the album feels. Like a lot of the tracks here, I feel like this track drags on for just a bit too long partially because it doesn’t have a strong climax. I do think the remix version of the song is more efficient with its five-minute runtime, but the album version is definitely better for sex. “CooCool” sounds like a song that people will call a classic in twenty years’ time. The chorus definitely throws it back to older music, but at the same time it feels modern enough like the rest of the album, way more modern than Róisín Machine. “The Universe” is definitely camp. It’s a unique track that’s infectious instantaneously and very unconventional, and the gay *** Karen vocals, which return on “Crazy Ants Reprise,” are very cute and add to both tracks. “Fader” is easily the best track on this record. Again, sounds like a classic but quirky and catchy enough for it to be an addictive ear worm. “You Knew” is fine. Nothing to complain about this track in particular, but it’s definitely the weakest single in the context of the album. My major concerns concentrate on the deeper cuts of the record. “Hurtz So Bad” sounds very good live, but on the studio track, the verses are mediocre at best. I don’t mind this at all but why do artists nowadays love to start their songs with fart noises? We have King Princess with “Too Bad,” and now this? The remix version of “The House” sounds amazing, but the album version here sounds like a “The Universe” ripoff that’s inspired by “Harleys In Hawaii” by Katy Perry. It’s not a flattering sound at all, and Terfy’s autotune and vocal mixing on this track, along with the track “Two Ways,” are horrible. “Two Ways,” oh boy, this is the definition of a trap experiment gone terribly wrong. This track is almost unlistenable. Easily the worst track of this record excluding the interludes. “Free Will” takes forever to build itself up, and the tune itself is not really that unique even if it’s another track that throws it back to the past. The production on “Can’t Replicate” sounds so dry. We end things off with a so-so “Eureka” that doesn’t save the hint of staleness that some of its predecessors still leave. I got to commend Terfy for taking a huge risk on this record: making a project that’s this breezy yet captivating and enjoyable is not an easy feat and definitely not what critics normally gravitate towards. Overall, it’s definitely not bad enough to be a **** Parade, and don’t get me wrong, there are truly great moments on all of the tracks here, even “Two Ways,” but it’s definitely hard to say that this is completely groundbreaking given the lackluster songwriting on a lot of these tracks even if I do see this album being a possible grower that might just need a bit more digestion from its listener, and it’s even harder to say that she’s not a **** person given how she’s not willing to educate herself on topics that are extremely sensitive and dangerous to be misinformed on. 75/100 2

But yeah I see what you mean about House and Hurtz and I agree. This is why artist should NEVER debut so much of their songs live before the album release. It always ruins the experience a little. 1
