Grace gave it a positive review, uh oh :skull:

Hopefully this is a Mario situation where critics are being too harsh and game fans will love it

I think it will be one of the movies that is for the fans of the franchise. Locals are kinda hating it but most fans are happy

Idk what critics expected, “too much plot”? Would they rather we watch monitors for 2 hours? :skull:

As someone who enjoys the lore of this franchise, this was fine. I just don’t get why they tried to make the animatronics funny rather than scary :rip:

Josh Hutcherson could r*w me though.

People said that if you haven't played the games you won't understand the story of the movie. Is it true?

No, the games and the movie have different canons. Of course there are some references that are directly related to the games, but the overall story can be understood by anyone

So I went tonight and I went in with low expectations, since I had seen the mixed to bad reviews. I was pleasantly surprised! It was good, certainly not my favourite horror of the year and nothing necessarily mind blowing story or scare wise.

Perhaps it suffered from a few plot holes and not enough explaining and backstory, and a second rewatch may explain it better but yeah, it was good! I enjoyed it at least.

behind It/It, fighting with Halloween for #3 horror opening

I’ve been with this series ever since the day the first game released (technically a little before, because I watched somebody play a demo), and this movie mostly met my expectations in every way. That’s not necessarily a good thing, my expectations were all over the place. I was expecting it to be sort of bad, poorly written but still enjoyable, and for the most part it was that.

The writing can be a bit weak at points but it also surprised me with some of its ideas, almost like they were trying to go more Stephen King with some of it. The performances were good, not great, and I was pleasantly surprised by the child actors.

Knowing the development hell that this movie has been in since 2015, I’m fairly positive that this is the best version of this movie that could exist. I enjoyed my time with it and I think it’s worth a watch if you’re at all curious. The reviews are insanely overdramatic, and the RT critics score versus the audience score proves that.

I’m looking forward to the sequel! I have a feeling Blumhouse will want to pump one of these out every year or so but if they take their time (hopefully not another 8.5 years), the second movie could be a marked improvement over this one.

Bigger debut than Halloween 2018 ,huge numbers despite that it was available on Peacock.

I just got done watching this and I wouldn’t say it was awful, but it just felt like nothing really happened. The animatronics were just sort of there for most of the movie and with the slow build up, I was expecting a crazy last 30 minutes or so and it just never happened.

I actually kept forgetting that this was supposed to be a horror movie, as mama, where was the horror? :gaycat:

I also don’t know if this was some sort of game reference, but why did Mike…

Spoiler

keep jumping at that toy in the locker? It wasn’t remotely scary and was completely stationary, so what exactly was causing him to jump? Also the fact they tried to make that a legitimate jump scare TWICE in the movie was so random. Even my nephew, who is only 13 asked how that was supposed to be scary… :gaycatx:

This was a good movie! Did not know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised by the outcome! Great numbers too!

The most boring "horror" film I've seen. The only good part was seeing Josh Hutcherson again.

That being said, Blum knew exactly the target audience, so most of the decisions kinda make sense (lack of gore, horror, jumpscares, even language, and the premise itself is ridiculous but fascinating for children, literally a kid's urban legend). At one point I was worried I got it mixed up and was about to watch Trolls 3 cause the entire place was filled with children and families.

I didn’t know anything about the game, but from the tv ads and PG-13 rating I could tell it was aimed for a Goosebumps audience. I think it worked well as that type of film.
