Girl I hope you chose the wrong emoji, that's nothing to cheer about :rip: (but it deserves that score so)

Just listened to the previews and I see why y'all have been praising Minute! Def the best on the album (also bc it sounds fresh compared to some other 3 year old songs on this album...)

I get it’ll be critically dragged a bit but I’m still stanning it has some decent bops on it.

I wish it had more personality though.

Minute in HQ is all i needed :jonny4: this needs a single push ASAP.

My review:

Spoiler

'Feed The Beast', Kim Petras' definition of her debut album, is a scattered array of tracks compiled together to attempt to convince us of who Petras is an artist. Unfortunately for her, the end results aren't convincing enough.

This project, which houses the undercooked "brrr" and "Alone" featuring Nicki Minaj, sounds like that of a compromise between her record label and the music that once used to define Kim. Feed the Beast was preceded by multiple vast efforts to get Kim Petras a hit of her own following the overwhelming success of "Unholy" with Sam Smith, which appears here as a bonus track in a last ditch effort to attach streams to this album. This same strategy (if you can call it that) can also be spotted with "Coconuts" which was meant for leaked-and-scrapped album Problématique, which in comparison to this is a way more concise and consistent offering.

One of my biggest gripes about this playlist-esque album is how short some of these songs are, which limits their potential for a climax. A prime example of this occurrence being "Castle in the Sky", which could've been so much more with a bridge. Certain production changes that I wasn't the biggest fan of include the Hit It From the Back skip to verse 2 and the new drums in Claws, both of which are side-eye worthy at the very least. The rollout of this album also had me taken aback, as it seems the weakest efforts were presented first from the album. It's almost as if Kim and her team intentionally wanted to alienate her fanbase in search of a smash hit.

Now it's not to say that this album doesn't have it's moments that remind you why we're tuned into this project in the first place. Cuts like "King of Hearts", "Revelations" and "Castle in the Sky" are reminders that Kim Petras still has a sense of what good pop music is. Perhaps a tighter collection of songs that don't span from multiple projects would've given us a better idea of what Kim Petras wanted us to hear, but that wasn't what we got here.

Highlights: Castle In The Sky, King of Hearts, Minute, Revelations
Lowlights: Thousand Pieces, Bait, Alone, Brrr, Unholy

5.6/10

Good luck to Kim with this album release, I hope she can find a way to get a hit out of this which she absolutely needs.

Castle In The Sky is amazing. She needs to do more over europop beats :jonny:

King of Hearts is on Spotify playlists

Not me missing HIFTB also being on the tracklist  She wasn't lying :jonny5:

The album in FLAC whew :jonny:

I don’t care for critics and sales, this will be my AOTY for sure

King of Hearts is the new focus and will be getting playlisting next. I was hoping for Minute but still a bop :clap3:

There are some bops but not much personality... I actually do think this is way better than Problematique though. Here's a better tracklist which would me it a 6/10 instead of the 5/10 it is:

Castle In The Sky

Alone (DallasK Remix)

King Of Hearts

UhOh

Revelations

HIFB

All She Wants

Feed The Beast

Claws

Minute

after hearing the album in HQ here are my opinions:

- my biggest gripe is her vocals. outside of the dr luke songs, she sounds atrocious. just compare Alone to Thousand Pieces or Castle In The Sky and you’ll see what i mean

- a bunch of these songs were not needed. Unholy, Sex Talk, Thousand Pieces and Coconuts weigh the album down. BAIT is also crap but it lines up with the album theme so i guess it works

This album was clearly just made to please Republic. At least she got to put something out. Unfortunately I don’t see her getting another hit, Alone was the biggest chance but they fumbled that HARD. The 2.0 version should’ve been the original from the start.

Republic needs to stop making her something she’s not, stop trying to make her some global pop icon and just accept she’s niche for the gays

This is very great album 8/10. The only thing this album lacks is concept that's why problematique is better for me

It's a perfect pop album filled with bangers. And yes; overall it's better than Problematique.

We love her but Problematique wishes she had King Of Hearts, Claws, Castle In The Sky, Uhoh and Minute. It is what it is.

*I deleted Coconuts, Sex Talk and Revelations. Because they belong to Problematique in my opinion.

I replaced Alone with Alone 2.0 and deleted Unholy too. And I included If Jesus Was A Rockstar.

NME gave the album a 80. The article was removed (it’ll probably be out at midnight) but y’all can find it searching on google :bird:

Era 1 = Clarity > TOTL > Feed The Beast > Problematique > **** Pop

Don't get me wrong, FTB is not a bad album at all, but it definitely lacks personality and cohesion. I hope she'll get dropped by the label after this era just so she can gain back artistic control over her work. Instead of signing with Republic  she should've sign with more indie label where she can express herself artistically. I feel like her next project is going to be THE one

Alright, this album SCREAMS for a tracklist rearrange.

First and foremost, the album cover. (we lost so badly with the og...)

SGGTjlP.jpg

1. Feed The Beast

2. Castle In The Sky

3. King Of Hearts

4. Minute

5. If Jesus Was A Rockstar (EW...I know...but weirdly it fits)

6. Alone (with Nicki Minaj) (the extended version ofc)

7. Thousand Pieces

8. uhoh

9. brrr

10. Claws

11. BAIT (feat. Banks)

Bonus Track:

12. Unholy (with Sam Smith) (unneeded but I kinda like how it sound after BAIT)

Please, lets let Problématique rest in its peace and glory :rip: (aka scrap all of those old ass track from FTB)

I agree and i’m using a similar tracklist for this…

We should have just gotten Try Again and just had this as a 13 track album of all new songs that are made post-Problématique :celestial5:
