W*w*bloggs however Finland's NF put up a story that Yle and other the other Nordic countries broadcasters are discussing with the EBU regarding Israel's participation

I don't know if British media is reporting on Olly's pro-Palestinian stance out of malice but I think it's good bringing out the issue of Israel in Eurovision.

 

The Israeli embassy (?) twitter account has been harassing him too. BBC needs to step up and defend him.

 

And of course we're hoping Scandinavia would pull through and threaten with some action  come on!

This tweet really should be the deciding factor for the EBU to ban Israel from the contest. Just imagine how massive the outcry would be if a Russian embassy tweeted something similar about a Ukrainian entry?

Why do we have to imagine? The Russian government constantly made calls for Eurovision to ban Jamala in 2016, made a huge fuss after she won, and then tried to send a severely disabled woman to Kyiv the following year, knowing she would be barred from entering the country for illegally entering Crimea via Russia, all in the name of trying to make Ukraine look bad diplomatically. Russian politicians constantly used Eurovision to wage its culture wars against Ukraine

I will save you the shame of posting the actual numbers and comparing the casualties on each conflict because we're all aware of them and I think you are too but what you're saying is simply not true.

 

We're all aware of the tactics Russia has used in the past and we've all condemned it, so has the whole of Europe. But the way that's an excuse n your mind to justify Israel's actions is something beyond the imaginable for so many people in this thread, including me. And also the reason why so many people are finding it hard to empathise with why someone that has been in a slightly different situation but also under an oppressor can dismiss these claims so lightly- unless there is an ulterior motive hiding behind your speech.

You shame yourself already by even implying that the Ukrainians have somehow suffered less casualties, considering more people were killed in the siege of Mariupol alone than this entire Israel-Hamas war. Not that it’s a competition, but what a disgustingly manipulative implication.

 

No one is justifying the war in Gaza. It’s terrible, too many civilians have died, peace needs to be made asap so that Gaza can be rebuilt, and Israel needs to go through internal changes so that there can be actual hope for a 2 state solution. I’m speaking about the hypothetical “imagine Russia did this” hypocrisy - we don’t have to imagine, because Russia already has and continues to act like a terrorist state, before and after being kicked out of Eurovision.
 

Stop trying to compare the Russia-Ukraine war with the Israel-Palestine conflict. None of these conflicts are black and white, and uninformed spectators do the people who are actually living through this violence a disservice by trying to create direct correlations that don’t exist.

You really don't get it, do you?  It's actually really simple in the context of Eurovision.

 

Russia attacks Ukraine and kills people = Immediate disqualification 

Israel attacks Gaza and kills people = *silence* 

 

The EBU can bend over with their mental gymnastics and stupid excuses like how Eurovision is a non-political event or how it is a competition of broadcasters and not countries. All this faux-positivity and United by Music crap becomes transparent once EBU refuses to take responsibility of allowing a genocidal state take part in the competition. 

 

Ukrainians have been awfully vocal about excluding Russia from every international space, be it Eurovision, Olympics, WC or whatever. If you people feel entitled to dictate and demand where Russian people can participate or not WHY CAN WE NOT HAVE THE SAME ENERGY FOR ******* ISRAHELL? And I'm sorry to bring this up again, but as a Eurofan, I'm sick of seeing the sheer negativity pouring out of the Ukrainian Eurofans. Nobody wants to see death wishes and other heinous stuff towards people who have had the misfortune of being born in Russia.
