Mezik Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Here are my overall final thoughts of each song. Switzerland: It was not my number one song (obviously being Croatian) however one cannot deny Nemo's incredible talent. It is a deserving winner, and the song itself is amazing. Croatia: Heart breaks they got second, but they are runner ups to the best. So happy they scored there best rank yet, and first time making the top ten in 23 years. Ukraine: I think this is the strongest entry that they have submitted in a long time. I prefer this over '1944' and 'Stefania'. I think it is incredibly deserving of placing top three. France: Am I wrong for thinking that this song is totally boring, and a completely calculated entry just for juries? I preferred last year's act for France. Israel: Ireland: I loved 'Doomsday Blues' since it was selected. I remember checking the odds back in February, I was do disappointed that it looked like it was not going to qualify and the fact that it finished top ten? AMAZING. Italy: It's another top ten finish, and while not as strong as 'Due Vite', I think it's a good song. Armenia: I think this was the best surprise. I am so happy such a culturally significant song, that highlights the Armenian people, not only placed top ten, but gave Armenia their best result in such a long time. Sweden: Honestly, it's a bop. I can't complain that it got top ten. These two worked hard to get where they are and should be proud. Portugal: Not my cup of tea, but her vocals are amazing. Pleasantly surprised they snatched the #10 spot. Greece: I like the song, and think she should hold her head high with the result. Honestly, I don't think people expected Portugal to do so well with the jury. Germany: I called it that this song was good and was not going to be last this year. I am happy with it's placing. Luxembourg: With this placing, I think Luxembourg will definitely come back next year. It was a safe, non controversial song. I personally would not have put it this high. Lithuania: Should have been in the top ten instead of . But he served a bop. Cyprus: Honestly, it's a generic bop. I think it's appropriately ranked. Latvia: I am just so happy for Latvia. I was worried had they not qualified they would not return to 2025. Not only were they a surprise qualifier - I am shocked they got this high. Love it for them. Serbia: Serbia served a ballad that France wanted to serve. I honestly would of preferred Serbia #10 over Portugal or #4 over France, but it's a beautiful song. U.K.: Poor Olly.. he sounded awful live. I think perhaps he could have done a lot better had he sung well, but hey at least he improved U.K.'s rank from last year. Finland: This song grew on me in the final surprisingly! Estonia: Did not dig this song.... honestly. Georgia: I think it should have been a bit higher, but I can see why it didn't appeal to the voters. Also I have a feeling Georgia will always have an uphill battle with the televote. Spain: **** all of you who didn't get this into the top 3. She served art. Can't wait for this to be the most viral hit of the contest. Slovenia: I am so happy it made the final. I love Raiven. I think it was just too avant garde for the jury to appreciate. Austria: Funny enough I thought it was an easy top ten at the beginning of the contest, but then it just disappointed live? Norway: I am really not surprised by this. 4
byzantium Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 It's funny how everyone was complaining about the jury vote last year and this year they saved Eurovision.
Eric. Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 1 hour ago, JennyWayne said: They absolutely need to return juries into semifinals. What we see now is a few jury friendly songs getting in the final and then going on to collect a huge bulk of jury points while all the televote friendly entries which are a majority spread the votes between them I hadn't thought of it this way! The fact that the jury winner has snatched the trophy from a hugely popular televote winner twice in a row kinda shows this pattern. The jury push was even bigger this year, because Nemo got more jury points than Loreen and both years had 37 voting juries.

The broadcast really didn't see that one coming. Yikes. I guess it's easier to mask boos during a performance, but not when it's just someone speaking on a mic.
Bewitched Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Don't really know how voting works so why did the UK get 0 public points?

velocity Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 i'm so glad i just went to bed last night, it would have not been worth staying up i can't believe that trash won, croatia DESERVED and kaleen getting barely any votes? literally criminal good riddance

byzantium Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Just now, Bewitched said: Can you explain Don't you need to spend money to vote? (I know it's different in every country) UK is not the most sympathetic country to motivate people to spend money on them, unless they are really good people will probably not vote for them.
velocity Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 i actually can't believe the song that was 5th in televeote won. the juries are trash and have way too much power. such a spit in the face of the audience who pay actual money to vote for their favorite. they'll really do anything to stop a balkan country from winning smh i'm still so bitter about joost and the fact that the isreali delegation got zero punishment for the **** they've been pulling is absolutely wild. eurovision you will always be trash 5
Cain Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Y'all are crazy, I didn't follow this thread throughout the competition and as soon as I saw Switzerland me and my friends were really impressed, the vocals were amazing, Nemo can WORK a camera and the staging was also really impressive The right winner won, **** the straight bait that was Croatia 6
Mellark Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 (edited) Honestly, I am not mad. Switzerland was 1st in the odds before the contest but then it shifted to Croatia. The last time the contest was in Sweden, the odds predicted a Russia or Australia win but Ukraine ended up taking it, also it was the first year they introduced the new system we have now. I mean it was good contest and I enjoy it more every time is in Sweden because SVT have that production knowledge due to Melodifestivalen every year. But this year was different and I am glad Switzerland won which I am at peace. Also, be glad we have juries, I am looking at the SF results which is 100% televote and let me just say, 50/50 juries is really the best. 1 hour ago, byzantium said: Don't you need to spend money to vote? Yeah, I live in the States and I spent like $3 dollars to vote for Armenia, Switzerland and Croatia. Edited May 12, 2024 by Mellark

It was between Hera Björk and Bashar Murad, but Bashar had the better song and could've gotten Iceland a better result, but might of guessed what happened.
shookspeare Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 oh everyone wants to wake up to the news I woke up to this morning... the evil has been defeated, that croatian song was not what y'all thought it was as a Ukraine stan I'm glad they finished top 3. If I'm being honest the performance was not as strong as last winners and I'm not sure why, even though I love the song and I stan alyona alyona the performance just didn't have the emotional impact that it should have had and didn't flow as well as it should have. 1944 and Stefania were both more effective performances I fear
velocity Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 i didn't like doomsday blue at all on first listen and now it's grown on me so much it might be my favorite from this year 3
Pendulum Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Lemme be serious for one second and express my recollected thoughts. Switzerland The Code is a bopianka but there is some obvious RIGGERY going on. The EBU will do everything but disqualify a certain country let a Balkan country win. Nemo is obviously talented and they slayed the house down boots mama but I cannot grasp how it absolutely SWEPT the juries? It was an obvious jury winner from the start but damn, not like that? Part of me wants to think that it is statistically impossible for that to happen I'm not mad at Switzerland winning but more so because we have the same situation as last year where the winner was ultimately decided by a landsliding jury. And all of the talks since last year's fiasco about reducing the amount of weight the jury points have? What happened? The conversation will be sparked again and will die out by September. Hopefully Lööserdahl resigns and the new executive director/committee/whatever brings some much needed sense into the contest. Croatia I've been a Baby Lasagna hater since day one. It's a cheap song made in a free-to-use music producing software à la FL Studio or GarageBand. Nothing inherently wrong with that though. Still, I wanted a Croatia win. See, this is my main problem with Eurovision every single year. The treatment of Eastern Europe (minus Ukraine) and the Balkans in Eurovision is merely a reflection of the general political landscape. It really seems as if we are not as rich, talented or worthy compared to our Western counterparts. This goes back years ago. I can't help but think of Austria's little sissy fit after Serbia's win in 2007 that got the juries back. Ukraine Cute but no, another win is not needed. I need to know why their delegation was wearing tshirts referencing Azovstal. If EBU can serve astronomical levels of pettiness by refusing to upload Portugal's performance because the performer had a kuffiyeh design on her nails (or Saade's performance for that matter), then I suppose any overt political statements are forbidden, no? Just another example of the selective application of the non-politics rule. Jerry and alyona x2 devoured the song, nonetheless. Certainly better than last year. France okay, king I guess IsraHELL the evil is defeated.gif Now, miss genocide bombing the jury voting is suspicious. Unless the bulk of the jury was somehow pro-Palestine. Good though. The televote is smelly too. Ireland and Iceland's televote handing her 10 points?? Just bizarre. Ireland Not a big fan of the song, sonically, BUT the performance and most importantly the performer themselves.. WE HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO STAN Their best result since 2000 see, when you have the TALENT, VISION, OUTSPOKENNESS and MORALS.. you can go this far. The true non-binary monarch of the Eurovision world. Nemo is the jester. and some other thoughts: Greece ahhh this motherfucking queen! There's just something about half-Greek women with the name Marina. 11th is a good position considering all of the shenanigans this year. Head up high Marina!!!!! Norway ah- gagged. I had a feeling this would be EAEA'd. I've warmed up to the song but the general public is just not here for these screaming matches. Austria Pre-last is brutal. Poor Godleen. Sweden A 2018 tea, kii. 7
Pendulum Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 @Communion I see you lurking oomf. What are your thoughts?
Pendulum Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 also, good luck booking that Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania return next year
Schhh Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 The number of televotes israel received is shocking. I was hoping they would at least be disqualified next year, but now that the competition will be held in Switzerland (EBU HQs), I doubt anything will change. We'll be in fear of another israeli win for years. 8 1
BOOM! Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 (edited) Not really happy with the winner. I don't think that the song is bad, it's very good actually but something about the performance and staging was missing. I feel like the song deserved much better and more interesting staging than them spinning on that platform. I really wanted Croatia to take it because it would be something different and he deserved to win with everything. israHELL being 2nd in the televote, just behind Croatia and getting some high scores from some juries is disgusting! Malta finishing dead last in her semi is the definition of clownery. The contest is influenced by politics probably more than ever, and even tho. they try to twist it and make us believe that it isn't, everything is clear like a water. Double standards, hypocrisy, their rules not applying to everyone in the same way... EBU is a collection of some disgusting and vile human beings and they deserve nothing but hell! Cain Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 How can y'all see Isr**l being 2nd in the public vote and NOT be thankful for the jury vote?? 6 5

abelfenty Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Angelina Mango becomes the first artist from Italy to not receive a single 12 points from any national jury since the jury/televote were split in 2016 3
Fevesy Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Olly is probably gonna scrap that album and go into acting full time
