BMG would have paid for these visualisers. 'Independent' just means she owns her masters, takes a smaller advance, and licenses her music to her label. They still pump money into the marketing of any given album/single as it is mutually beneficial.

This was my first time listening to a Kylie album in full, and I was pleasantly surprised.

 

Positives

- I like the production, I have always liked dance and electronic music because the beats and production are always fire

- NO BALLADS! There were a couple of midtempos but it was so refreshing to hear an album full of bops instead of a second half full of ballads

- The songs that are good are really good. Hold On To Now and Vegas High sound so fresh despite the clear 80s/90s influences.

 

Negatives

- I like the retro influences, but the strongest tracks were able to straddle the line between retro and current and pull it off. The weaker ones weren't able to do that and just sounded retro. I do wish Kylie had tried to make it a little more current

- Because of this, there was a disconnect between the singles (which are amazing) and some of the album tracks. The songs that took those retro influences but made them sound current (Vegas High, Hold On To Now) align much better with them and will be the ones I play again

- For a 14 track album (including the deluxe tracks) there were a couple of filler songs

 

On a first listen, this is a solid album. 7.5/10

Go listen to Aphrodite and X! So many great album tracks you'll probably enjoy if you like Hold On To Now and Vegas High.

I agree with this 1000%. The strongest album tracks are those ones retro influences but some current and timeless. The same ones you listed. The singles + HOTN + Vegas High (a ******* masterpiece)

remove album title for all tracks

quit Music app

reopen

add album title

 

usually fixes it

also Kylie needs to be the album artist

I wish I could hear what others hear in Vegas High  I put it on repeat to see if I can get into it, but it only made me realize the bridge (‘Come on and take us / Right into paradise’) is a carbon copy of ‘Shining like a supernova / Brightest of the stars’

 

Thank god Heavens and Grammy Light are right before it so I’m actually on a high until the next song 

 

On the other hand, the deluxe tracks have grown on me massively and I repent for not recognizing the excellence of Just Imagine and Somebody To Love earlier
