Jaguarqueef Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 Semi off topic but he’s too damn fine I need him to reenact Lewinsky-Clintongate with me.
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted May 17, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted May 17, 2023 You shouldn't be eligible for any political position if you're running past the retirement age.

In that case, Hillary, Trump, Bernie, and Biden would have all been ineligible. 2016 would have been Martin O'Malley vs. Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio. Honestly the Dems haven't had a single viable presidential candidate that wasn't post-retirement age since Obama (seeing as they're all either unelectable hacks like Harris and Buttigieg or anti-charismatic like Whitmer and Shapiro who haven't even indicated they'd be interested in it yet anyway), while the Republicans have a very young and able bench to lean on. They'll be forced to practically grave-rob for electable candidates due to having absolutely zero stars. Like... I'm talking running Jimmy Carter while he's in hospice-level.

I’m sure other candidates would have ran in 2016 had this been a rule. You had so many potential candidates sitting out in 2016 because it was “Hillary’s time” and Bernie was really the only one who had the audacity (complimentary) to challenge.

The only other candidate that was even being talked about in 2016 was Joe Biden, who is obviously even older than her, and he backed off because of his son's death. Elizabeth Warren would have been 66 so she would have also been ineligible, given that the retirement age wasn't raised to 67 until 11 years after she was born. Not likely she beats Cruz or Rubio either, given her same inability to connect with any voter outside of the highly educated whites cohort would have been present 4 years before.

It’s too many hypotheticals, but the DNC would have their own gameplan had the retirement rule been in play

But given that the DNC's own leadership is almost entirely helmed by geriatrics, I'm not sure they would ever agree to such a measure that would curb their own power. "Young Democrats" have been completely boxed out; unless they're shown to be like Jaime Harrison - who completely failed at winning elections (completely bombed against Lindsey Graham), but excelled at fundraising undeserved campaign funding that would have been better spent on actual swing races.
Vermillion Posted May 18, 2023 Author Posted May 18, 2023 There's so many layers to this that are just profoundly gross. It's been a while since I've been at a loss for words.
ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted May 18, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted May 18, 2023 Nancy Pelosi is a garbage person. I don’t even like Feinstein and think her legacy is one to be ashamed of. But this reprehensible manipulation of an elder Senator for political power is so beyond disgusting.

Yet you get so many Democrats that praise Pelosi for being so "politically savvy" despite her status as a political pedigree. They don't even realize that Nancy is precisely an example of nepo baby (her whole life is just being bred for her position in the House) that will turn on them in a second (as we're clearly seeing with Feinstein).
