The level of vitriol he gets isn’t justified, but his overexposure hasn’t been accompanied by any cultural or industry impact like Madonna or Taylor re: the streaming reimbursement conversation or on contracts to justify it, other than winning the Marvin estate trial and massive tours so I’m relieved his domination’s finally coming to an end. 

 

He has his residuals to live off of for the rest of his life so good for him. The material’s better this time around imho (with some exceptions), but let’s not pretend he doesn’t care about charts as indicated in multiple threads on this site for years

You do realize that's because the pop girls all have active stans here, so the O_Hs will join not only to mock the artist's underperformance but also to trigger their many stans to react. Not to mention most users here are passive OESHs, hating him because they're 'supposed to', while the haters for other pop girls are much more vicious and aggressive in their celebrations of flopping and controversies.

 

Ed Sheeran historically already has very few online people supporting him, let alone ATRL users willing to clapback and defend him. They know he's the current punching bag of every music fan and there's nothing they can do about it. 

 

And despite the ridiculous 'chart-obsessed' projections, he's simply not a messy guy, so there won't be any meltdowns and/or desperate attempts from his part to make the thread more 'entertaining'. For better or worse, him being a 'boring' public figure makes dragging him just as boring beyond cliché 'the evil is defeated' comments. 

 

Don't get me wrong, though, this community has serious misogynistic tendencies, but this instance isn't really a showcase of that.
