vale9001 Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) avril is an icon of an era for the kids of that generation. Nelly furtado always has been a kinda of non factor, expect for continental europe maybe. She got some hits, like fergie did, but no one when rethinks to the past thinks they were "my youth". And US market isn't even Avril's main one . Yeah,. Kelly is the bigger nam. That's why she sells less, has less streams and has less fans. .
Digitalism Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Because avril tried and failed to stay in the spotlight While nelly stopped caring
Luckitty Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 didn't Nelly basically choose to disappear? I don't think this is a fair comparison

And if she did care about commercial success she could have tried to do a re-release or new album with an undeniable smash but she left again and then just went more and more indie. Everyone was shook with Nelly Furtado's numbers in 2012. And she went down from an arena touring artist to perform in some bars with 500 seats. Anyway, i didn't mean to shade or anything but that's what really happened. OT: Avril had 3 massive eras and brought pop/rock into mainstream. She did make profound contribution for pop/punk genre while Nelly Furtado enjoyed one massive era but she did not bring anything new to music scene. Besides, i believe that when we talk about early 2000s female acts, Avril is only behind few acts such as Bey, Shakira, P!nk and Britney. She's definitely among the top 10 most successful 2000s female artists, (top 5 if we merely compare artists who debut in early 2000s).

Imagine to say something that dumb . How many of her peers who debuted in 2000s can sell out arena tour in 2023? Aside from Bey, P!nk, Shakira and Britney? That only 4 of her peers can actually pull a better number than her in 2023.
Moonturn Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 To be honest, at least in Europe they have been both completely irrelevant for the same amount of time now. I would even say, Furtado lasted longer, her Spanish Album in 2009 was well-received.
loveisdead9582 Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) Aside from being Canadian based artists, the two have nothing in common. Avril’s career started before and was still going strong after Nelly’s nosedived with TSI. Edited April 30, 2023 by loveisdead9582

Rev8 Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Odd comparison feels more like shitting on Nelly since those receipts are...ofc Avril will win but looking at it overall, Avril did have many more Eras be successful than Nelly it also helped that Nelly didnt want much of that spotlight (altho she still tried to be successful on her own terms, ppl were just not here for it so lets not) Now..seems like Nelly will start playing the game again from what we've seen so we will see what happens!

She sold 20K tickets for her concerts in London and around 13-15k for her concerts in Milan and Austria. She has become a legacy act instead
AvadaKedavra Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) Nelly never cared about comercial success. Only with Loose and she got scared of the huge fame coming with it. She had a chance to release an amazing electropop r&b record in 2010 but she didnt. Instead she gave us a strange album with world music. Spirit Indestructible Then she went indie. Avril was able to reinvent in her last era. Olivia and Billie and so many newcomers gettin inspired by her also helped her to be a more prominent name today. She striked while the iron is hot with her best album in years and she's doin good Edited April 30, 2023 by AvadaKedavra
