SmittenCake Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 China Railways has announced plans to develop a bullet train capable of standard operating speeds of 450km/h. The CR450 train will be the latest model in the CR400 Fuxing (“Rejuvenation”) series. At present, these run at 350 km/h, although they have reached 420km/h in test conditions. Zhao Hongwei, chief researcher of the China Academy of Railway Sciences, told China Daily that the more advanced model would be unveiled soon. She said: “The general design and schemes for the train’s subsystems are expected to be finalised next year, and the train will be completed in the near future.” Zhao, who oversaw the development of the Fuxing series, said the difficulties researchers are facing now are not the same as they faced while developing the first generation of trains, which leant on technology developed in Japan and Europe.
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted April 29, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted April 29, 2023 And in the US we have dilapidated NJ Transit trains and crumbling highways
Stimulus Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 Public transit is one thing that China has done very well on and I hope the U.S. is taking notes. Amtrak has a long way to go to even compete with air travel.

I think the Shanghai Maglev between downtown and the airport has the record for the highest operational speed at around 430km/h.

byzantium Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Maybe if the US had DOTs and government officials who were capable of doing anything but promoting automobile use, we could have nice things too.

GentleEarthquake Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Can my country just implement this. I'm tired of wasting one hour and a half traveling every day

And to think NJ’s transit system is the most extensive *statewide* system in the country Like it’s becoming increasingly apparent that the suburban boom of sprawling/cookie cutter, car dependent “communities” came in like Trojan horse disguised as the American dream. It just led to endless oil wars, which ultimately prevents the costs needed to maintain the US’s crumbling infrastructure, among other basic necessities like affordable healthcare and so on. The fact that gas prices of all things dictate the way people live and vote in the US is so embarrassing. Then there’s the homelessness epidemic and cost of housing in general too. Almost everything wrong in the US is tied to poor infrastructure/car dependency (and Reagan)
ninasayers Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) I wish my country had rail systems like that. Edited April 30, 2023 by ninasayers typo

China's high speed and normal speed rail network is just unmatched. If only certain western nations stopped lining their pockets with oil money and actually invested in infrastructure that can meaningfully benefit the average person instead of widening highways and letting its existing rail system crumble.
