Black Mirror | Season 7 coming in 2025

Just watched Joan is Awful. Thought it was a decent first episode, works nicely as an intro to this season. I like it that not every episode of Black Mirror have to be completely depressing (San Junipero, USS Callister, Ashley Too).

Beyond the Sea was genius. Reminded me just how much technology will always be superior to humankind.

The three other episodes are very fantastic/horror coded. Felt like watching American Horror Stories at times.

The "Loch Henry" praise in here :clap3::clap3::clap3: such a GREAT episode, I'll give it a 9/10

Loch Henry:

Didn’t really love this one. It was okay to a certain point, but took a dive when things really started unraveling. The ~twist~ was way too predictable in my opinion, and the characters actions were too dumb for this to feel like a good, sophisticated Black Mirror episode. But I liked the set up and where things were headed up to that point, and I liked how the ending really completed this story. If I hadn’t of seen it coming I could’ve seen this being great, but there was too many pointers tbh.

Mazey Day:

Yeah… this is definitely not a favourite. I like the concept of using paparazzi for an episode, but the way they took this one was just random (like, why?) and lacked depth overall. Doesn’t really provide any grand revelation or effective perspective, so probably one of the least memorable episodes for me (even despite the bizarre turn). Fell asleep for a couple minutes too and didn’t even miss anything, which isn’t great considering it’s already the shortest episode.

I guess I ended up watching two of the lesser hyped episodes back to back, but seeing the praise for the others leaves me still looking forward to the two I have left. And having seen three episodes now I’d say in comparison to Season 5’s three, this season feels stronger already.

I must agree that I loved the setup for Loch Henry but the twist was way too predictable. As soon as we made it into the

mom's house and saw that immense VHS collection, I knew there was going to be some hidden video / clue on it. Pia also got such a random and quick death that it really took me out of it until the ending. I was literally watching him in his hotel room during that final scene wondering if he would get a text from her revealing that she had faked her death for even more clout / notoriety. :skull:

Yeah exactly the same for me and my issue with that episode

Spoiler

Immediately seeing the amount of tapes and the focus it got, it was completely obvious that there would be something significant with it implicating the mother. It didn’t really help that the mother had awkward / odd vibes regardless, like it really was not subtle at all and felt very predictable. And I agree, the girls death was random and silly. She was pretty dumb to even put herself in that situation like… the moment she saw the tape she should have quietly RAN, but no she decided to sit down and eat dinner with the psycho and give herself away, like the stupidity girl… :rip: plus the bf literally warned her earlier about how people always go missing in the area because of the dangerous landscape and she still chose to try and go through the river for some reason even though she had already successfully escaped. :deadbanana4:

Only watched up to Loch Henry and wow… amazing episode.

My bf predicted that twist like halfway through it, and I was like there’s no way. Idk how I convinced myself it was the friends dad. I was SHOOK :skull:

the last two episodes sent me

loch henry > beyond the sea > joan is awful > demon 79 > mazey day

I miss the british feel the show had. I like the newer seasons but I loved how doomist the first 2 seasons felt, tragic how C4 is struggling due to budget cuts rn.

I liked Joan was Awful but Loch Ness was particularly crazy. I need to finish the rest.

Joan Is Awful had that wholesome bittersweet release feeling i got from Nosedive (my favorite episode ever) and it’s up there too now! absolutely loved it.

Loch Henry was….not a black mirror episode. if the show is about the dark side of technology i don’t understand how commenting on true crime sellout craze is related. especially when we only get 5 episodes, i want doomsday. not that.

it was cute tho.

brb after watching the rest✌🏻

Mazey Day is on 'Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too' levels of awful, but at least the Ashley ep birthed a catchy song, while Mazey was just shite with nothing to redeem it :rip:

Honestly another underwhelming season and now I'm wondering if maybe the show just doesn't have anything new or interesting to say? Lately, the writing just aren't as gripping compared to eps like White Christmas, White Bear,  Shut Up & Dance, The Entire History of Us,  Nosedive that felt like peak tv :jonny3:

My ranking would be: Loch Henry>Beyond The Sea>Demon 79>>>>>Joan is Awful>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Mazey Day

Idk if this show works in 2023. It was groundbreaking in 2014, but now the “technology will end us” trope has been kind ran into the ground. To the point where now the media uses it to fear monger, so it’s just a constant idea in our heads.

I might check out this season, but season 5 was really bad

Dropped this show after Season 3 for some reason, planning to get back

Mazey Day was terrible, one of the worst episodes in the show. One of the most un-black mirror thing I've ever seen.

Finished - disappointed in this season :/

Loch Henry was nothing special :biblio:

Some of these hardly felt like BM episodes, where is the technology in demon 79 :rip: it felt like those very lazy netflix shows that go viral for no reason other than good marketing

I'm dropping this show now it's lame and corny

The only good thing about this is the hot bear in Loch Henry :allears: I didn't even realise it was Pod from GOT

This used to be one of my favorite shows but this new season is just... not good. And neither was season 5. Loch Henry was amazing but that was truly the only episode that hit me like the older episodes did. That Mazey Day episode was just straight up dumb. It felt so out of place. Like I actually got annoyed by that plot twist bsdfh HOW is that a black mirror episode... This entire season felt like they just put together a couple of scripts that weren't written to be Black Mirror episodes and formed a season with them released with the Black Mirror name so people would watch it. I haven't watched the last episode yet and I'm probs not going to cause based on what I've read about it it seems like it's another occult horror episode that has absolutely no business being a part of this show at all. This just did not feel like a new season of Black Mirror.

loch henry was a decent episode... but not of black mirror. was just a quick little crime/horror film.

i cant @ people praising episodes for being "lighter". black mirror is supposed to be dark and dystopic. literally worst case scenario type stuff  :rip:

anyway, on to ep3.

Beyond the sea was excellent :clap3:

someone said the director just wanted their own version of AHS and they’re right :ahh:

these episodes (except ep 1 and 3) felt more AHS than Black Mirror

People complaining about the lack of technology like haven’t you all seen Season 1 Episode 1 and Shut Up and Dance? Two of the best episodes ever.  I think charlie broker is pushing something to show the dark side and perversion of humanity and technology is just an instrument to it, not the cause of it.

Overall, this is better than season 5 but okay-ish. 3>2>5>4>1

Beyond the Sea-

This was really good. I did think the direction it went in was quite expected, but still enjoyable to watch it play out and made for a great episode. Felt like classic early seasons Black Mirror.

Mediocre at best tbh
