I understand where the logic is coming from, but what you're suggesting sends the opposite of the needed message.

It's clear that these people will only listen and stand down if you don't give them the choice to. I live in Knoxville where this event took place, and I can tell you for certain that had she skipped, they wouldn't experience significant loss from it. Our football team brings in a **** ton of money, we have conservative country artists frequently at the venue, not much would change.

What does make change is protest and defiance and raising your voice. History has shown that defiance of any unjust law, pushing back, disobedience, that's how things get shaken up. The oppressed need to band together and overwhelm the oppressors, not bend to their will. Skipping coming to Tennessee only allows Republicans to win. That's what they want. They don't care about financial loss because they will never personally feel it and their constituents that will are too blinded by the culture war to hold them accountable. They do not care about that and never have. Knoxville's leadership, and even leadership in Nashville don't care about financial loss, they don't care if their people suffer, they'll never have to experience it.

This? This gets their attention. Look how scared some students protesting at the Tennessee capitol got them last month. They're easily shaken by someone challenging them.

Yes, protesting and raising your voice gets the attention but it certainly doesn’t guarantee change. Hitting the pockets does the damage. That’s been proven more time and time again.

Refer back to George Floyd. Black people have been treated unjustly by the police for centuries and the protesting from the Trayvon Martin years and later did close to nothing. George Floyd comes along, businesses are on being destroyed, commercial buildings are in flames, big corporations are targeted, and then all of a sudden it is, “we have to do something.” Why? Because the money was at stake.

Since then, there’s been a slew of police reform policies implemented, federal acts signed, including bans on chokeholds and no-knock warrants, and even changes that have nothing to do with police brutality. You mess with someone’s money and they will act correctly quicker than you can blink!

This has always been extremely performative to me, and it isn’t just her who’s doing it.

Artists protest against certain states and the choices the state puts in place but they still go to these places on tour for a cash grab. If you were really about that life, you would refuse to even set your show up there and would let the state suffer from economic loss. These tours generate a big piece of revenue for these places because of hotel reservations, transportation, dinning, etc. If artists continue to skip these spots on tours, the government would realize and would most likely make a change. Why? Because it affects their money. The reasoning behind the CEO of Disney going against DeSantis is a prime example.

But artists are too worried about their own pockets and it ends up being performative :skull:

**** the LGBTQ people in these places who deserve a little joy and hope in their lives, I guess.

Even if it's performative (which I don't think it is), she probably changed someone's life last night that needed it.

Trans people need more support, not less. I don't see the logic behind criticizing someone for supporting a marginalized group in a state where they are under attack. If you're fighting for your rights, you want all the support you can get whether it's "performative" or not. It was a great performance and there's nothing wrong with that.

We voted that orange disgusting waste of space out in record numbers. Calling someone Hitllery is funny considering.
