Her fans have posted the same comments for years, it’s kinda sad to watch. Taylor (along with most artists) destroys Rihanna in literally EVERY talent-based musical category, they are only comparable vocally. Even then, Taylor is a much better performer overall. Taylor, JLO, Paula Abdul, etc have a “less than mediocre” voice, while many of the names you originally named  like Gwen, Ed, Kylie, JT, Janet, Diana, Kacey etc just have an average voice

Ask any of them to hit a C6 or hold anything higher than C5 for more than 10 seconds. The average human can do the latter. 
 

Anyways, let me change mediocre to decent so people can feel better about their faves. They can hold a tune but nothing special.

Gurl there’s not much of a difference, but yes let me go and see how one sucks less than the other. 
 

And completely missing the point. We are talking about black singers getting a pass for a voice like say Gaga, Pink and Mikey and have success like those big names. They have to be better than at least Gaga, Pink and Miley to get some recognition.

 

 

Now if people are offended by calling Gaga, Pink and Miley mediocre then that’s a personal problem. Or let me rephrase, they’re decent but not top tier. They can get away with a lack of certain talents others can’t afford.

The average person can't sing at all, or sings terribly. The reason why singers have been revered across all cultures for millennia is because they're very few who can sing, and even fewer who can sing really well. Miley, Gaga, and P!nk are certainly above the average person vocally. No question about that. Certainly there are better singers than them, just as most actually great voices will never be heard in mainstream music, but to say they're mediocre is just false. I agreed with certain parts of your argument but I think you're lumping too many individuals in one area. Anyway this thread and topic are both tired and overdone and I can't believe I've actually been pulled back into it.

Black people have it harder because of socio-political reasons post-Columbus (not getting into it in here but you and I both know why and how it is). That it pervades in all areas of life including the music industry is obvious, but that it exists in the music industry too is just an extension of a socio-political matter not exclusive to that part only.

 

I don't even listen to P!nk or Miley or Gaga like that, neither am I a strong fan of any of them but it's just untrue to say they have basic vocals. Two things can be true at the same time: Black artists often have to be exceptional to gain a fraction of the success that their less exceptional white counterparts have; Gaga, P!nk, and Miley are good singers. Do I think Yolanda, Jazmine, Ledisi, Lisa Fischer, and others are far better singers than nearly all mainstream musicians and deserve better and more recognition for their talents? Yes. But we don't have to be false about certain things to express that.

Pink, Gaga and Mikey are mediocre and average singers. There’s no way around that. Now if that’s good for you and great and so be it. There’s better hills to die on.  We can put them a bit higher than JLo and Taylor swift and that’s it.
