Hermione was portrayed as white on official book covers - POA US version and Deathly Hallows UK version, Emma was cast as her because let's be real that's how JKR imagined her to look like, I am sorry but that JKR tweet is as usual BS,  I do not even care about this discussion but Hermione's race being opened to the discussion was just a way for JKR to collect some woke points, same with Albus being gay

It is obvious that JKR has imagine Hermione as being a white person, but she made it clear that Hermione's race is not important enough to prevent a Black girl playing her. I don't understand why people fail to see that, and why it is such an issue.

Hollywood, Come Up With Something New Challenge :bam:  I read Harry Potter when I was like 9 years old, it's a series for (and about) schoolchildren. Why does Hollywood think I'll want more of this series in a decade when I'll be firmly middle-aged? 40+ still stanning a book about an 11 year old

I mean, grown adults can still stan literary classics like Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, the Narnia books, The Little Prince, etc. and all those feature children as protagonists, even Romeo and Juliet were 16 and 13 ( :rip: )

But I do get what you mean cause Harry Potter is even more for children cause the main attraction is... going to a school :rip:

Maybe... this is supposed to be a show for the current kids? You know, like you were once.

I can't believe anyone ever even considered making a Cursed Child movie, let alone went so hard for it.  That godawful story is universally reviled and is a big part of the reason why the HP universe has been in such a dark state this past decade.

Thank god Emma and Dan saved us from that disaster :clap3:

People who still say Hermoine was never written as white are not actually arguing in good faith :rip: Very unserious people

Just say that the race of the characters as JK wrote them doesn't matter (it doesn't) :cm:  Outside of whoever they cast being thrown to the wolves in a tired, predictable attempt from the creators to deflect criticism

somehow hoping this all falls through though

There were pitches for the series to be set in America and in Paris, but JK Rowling shot it down because HP is a British property and should stray true to it

This isn't a good sign, cause JK may be a ***** but she's right that it should remain British. American Harry Potter is a big NO :skull:

Not people in here having a meltdown when they see the word diversity :toofunny3:

Your protestations are interesting, since as far as I'm aware, Hermione's skin color/race is never explicitly referred to in the books.

Source....Rowling herself:

OT: I think this TV series will turn out to be a mistake, but we'll see.

It's so funny how when she said this the right-wing claimed she was a woke liberal leftie and then as soon as she came out as transphobic she's suddenly a hero of their anti-woke cause :rip: They are so ******* fickle :toofunny3:

Can I ask why? I never read the books and hate the movies, but surely non british wizards exist?

If she could change the past and turn down the role in 2000, would she do it?

The entire thing is just so quintessentially British, almost stereotypically so, and is a big part of its appeal to international audiences. Making it American would strip away a lot of its identity.

This. Plus there is already an American school. Ilvermorny. I would love to learn more about it but it would flop probably. I feel like I'm the only one interested in it. :hippo:

Hypothetically if she did. And we all know the answer to my question.

This right here is confirmation that this whole story is bullshit  anyone believing a word of this is an idiot.

Omg I can already see twitter crying about Hermione being black for months. Let me silence this reboot before it's too late. :rip:

I’m actually looking forward to them casting kids that can actually act cause the first three movies are honestly rough at times... I personally don’t care for the original trio enough that the roles would be “ruined” if I see some other actor playing them. Like I don’t think Harry Potter and picture Daniel Radcliffe? I see the original illustrations from the books in my head, not the actor. I’m curious if the people that can only see Daniel as Harry are mostly movie-only people, or maybe read the books after the movies not the other way around? It’s a little different for some of the adult actors though, like obviously Alan Rickman as Snape will be hard to replace for me. Julie Walters as Molly. HBC as Bellatrix. The others not so much.

Cursed child is awful so they did everyone a favor putting it off for a while.

As for diversity I defended black Hermione in the play anyway. Cos her race isn't important and plays are less literal interpretations anyway. The issue with her being black in a reboot imo is it would make the whole S P.E.W thing seem even more racist than it already is. Joanne demands it be faithful which means they probably can't change that awful storyline either.

I hope they cast Hermione as non-white so all the racists boycott this unneeded money grab

The liberals should boycott because JK is a vile terf and the racists/conservatives should boycott because Hermione is black. Then this **** can be cancelled :swan:

But didn't the exact same thing happen when they first started to adapt the movies? I even remember them wanting Spielberg do direct it and he had a complete different view for the movies and even wanted Macauley Culkin to be Harry but she was against it and asked for a full british cast.

Cursed Child plot is trash and makes no sense so good on them. :clap3:

I hope it flops HARD

UFORTUNATELY if it does everyone will blame black Hermoine and not cause JK is a TERF

Yeah, back in 2000 before the entire franchise became a globally recognized brand with multiple theme parks and a billion dollar merchandising standard.

The Wizarding World franchise, and specifically Harry Potter, are concretely british - suggesting Warner Brothers would willingly abandon that branding for a prestige tv reboot is insane and reeks of obsessed Rowling haters exaggerating stuff to make her and the franchise look bad.

Emma Watson deserve other mainstream movie roles, I don't remember her in anything other than Beauty and the Beast and that she was casted in Little Women film. I never watched Harry Potter as I find it annoying so Emma deserves more roles in Hollywood!
