VARIETY: ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Series ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’ Ordered at HBO

The “Game of Thrones” prequel based on George R.R. Martin’s “Dunk and Egg” books is officially moving forward at HBO. It also comes a little over two years after Variety exclusively reported that the series was in development.  The series is currently titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.”

The official logline states, “A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

Martin will serve as writer and executive producer, as will Ira Parker, who was a co-executive producer on Season 1 of “House of the Dragon.” “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon” vets Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis will serve as executive producers.

Dunk and Egg! :duca: I'm excited

Excited, but I wish they focused on other houses as well. I feel like they’re getting too much Targaryen content out in a short amount of time and soon enough there won’t be any left.

Like, I don’t want to see that Snow show either, but a series in Bran the Builder or Children of the Forest would be super interesting in my opinion.

Some information that George provided in his blog:

1. "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight" is a working title, "Dunk & Egg" being in the title is out of the question because it sounds like a sitcom to him.
2. The show has been greenlit for a full season (currently planned to consist of six episodes but that is open to change as development goes on).
3. Season one is planned to be an adaptation of The Hedge Knight novella with The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight being the seasons after if all goes well.
4. The pilot episode is written by Ira Parker who wrote episode 4 of House of the Dragon.
5. He plans to write a few more Dunk & Egg novellas in between writing Winds, Dream and Fire & Blood Volume II.

they are doing House of the Dragon with less material than that so i don't see the problem.

So I guess I was the only one who hated and couldn't finish this series :giraffe:

it's the difference between a narrative story and a fake encyclopedia.

it's like comparing the hobbit vs. the silmarillion.

I wish they would do things in a chronological order. I think it’s confusing that they chose the plot from House Of The Dragon instead of starting out w Aegon and his sisters.

Why doesn't his fat azz finish Winds and Dream first? He has time for everything except finish the actual books.

I honestly agree, doing everything in the proper order would have been great. I guess they want multiple shows to go on at the same time though and there has been talk of the Aegon thing actually being a movie instead of a show as well.

Who te **** wants this? Give us the Jon Snow spin-off for more beyond the wall or a story about the forest children and the white walkers.
