Seems like this might've been cancelled? The album was removed from AM, a lot of the preorder links and listings for it have gone down, and both Popular and Double Fantasy have been just made into singles. Considering that after just 2 episodes HBO announced it's not being renewed for a second season, a Vol. 2 isn't gonna happen either. Wikipedia says that the songs will just be released as EPs that feature songs from their specific episodes... I guess bullying might work?

Edit: looks like people are also getting cancellations and refunds on their order of the album, sooo... oof

are we certain this is not coming as an album? i don’t see why tho

it’s literally all the songs put together on an album

lol, looks like this is 100% definitely not coming. he split the final episode's single into parts for some reason and only put out part 1 but we pretty much have as many tracks now as the original album was supposed to be.

i meaaaan is it too hard to put them all together in an album on spotify to have them organized??

I really hope they do that after the airing of the finale

Such a great decision to cancel this album, since Abel will have double Glitter moment: the panned TV show and the bombed soundtrack album. :rip:

so the album had 12 tracks at first and i still have its dead shell saved in my am library and it shows 14 songs now

but in total there were 18 songs released for its soundtrack so i wonder if one of the reasons for the album to be shelved was cause he felt like it was simpler to just release the songs in eps corresponding to the episodes they appeared in

this is such a mess can they just compile it together :rip:

Not a big fan of The Weeknd but sure I really like many songs by him, but oh boy my boyfriend (which likes his music a lot) and I were cringing so hard during many scenes when his music was playing.

He looks so goofy in that role and adding his music in the background of the scenes is so unfitting lol

this soundtrack fire tho

So Popular is not of the soundtrack yet the most successful track of Idol.

That would be Double Fantasy

Jennie's track is good! why did it make zero noise? there was so much buzz before the song came out

My best guess is that the solo Troye, Moses and Suzanna tracks were tacked on as extras after the compilation was canceled - a lot of the more Weeknd centric tracks (and World Class Sinner) flow into each other (with a few songs straight up having in song transitions) but none of those songs fit into the album as a whole very well. Mad the show sucked and this, as an album, wasn't anywhere near as good as Dawn FM but it still bopped.

my tracklist

Spoiler

The Lure

Fill the Void

Dollhouse

Double Fantasy

Popular

Get It B4

Crocodile Tears

Devil's Paradise

Like a God

False Idols

Family

World Class Sinner

My Sweet Lord

One of the Girls

Jealous Guy

A Lesser Man

Take Me Back

one of the rare things that i can say are a good thing when it comes to the idol is weeknd coming back to his PBR&B/Alternative R&B as opposed to the endless 80s rehashes we had to endure for years (regardless of the fact how good some of these are).

an exception is popular which is leaning into this retro area, a la blurred lines, but is actually sounding somewhat fresh and isn't drowned in tacky 80s synths.

i won't comment the show, i pretend it didn't happen, and that's my coping mechanism at the moment.
