Corso Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Gaga did bring a lot of people to see HoG, but that's because of A Star is Born. She doesn't have the same box office draw now that she did then because HoG wasn't very good. That's why she needed a sure thing like Joker 2. If she made HoG today I don't think it would do as well. Its like how The Fame/Monster led to BTW opening big, but then BTW led to ARTPOP...

Jessie Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Being the main draw of a Rated R adult drama film doing $150m during the height of COVID — I know some full time Hollywood actresses were sweating at that one.

I'm not familiar with the specifics behind what an "adult drama" is but I feel the thread should specify "Rated R."
G.U.Y_Del_Rey Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Thanks to butts-in-seats movie star Lady Gaga
Europe Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Gaga is simply the most talented pop girl of all time and she is finally reaping the rewards for it.

Jessie Posted April 9, 2023 Posted April 9, 2023 Creed III and Elvis also had PLF screens including IMAX, both rated PG-13 and both received wider releases with the former reaching over 4k theatres on release. So bigger studio tentpoles netting a bigger OW in a healthier theatrical climate?Groundbreaking.

Drama movies aimed at adults over 25, more likely to be Rated R such as Air and House of Gucci. Elvis and particularly Creed III (I mean really) are aiming to draw in more demos than that. Hence blockbuster premium screen formats on release.

Air spent $7 million on a Superbowl Ad, this isn't some niche film.

The Bohemian Rhapsodies and Elvis' of the world are a bit of a different beast than your average adult drama- HoG, Where the Crawdads Sing, The Whale, and yes, Air.
