ZIVERT Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 Despite randomly deciding to label NPR as US stated-backed media, a deep dive into Twitter has shown that they are no longer doing the same for Russian and Chinese state controlled media. Quote Twitter is no longer taking steps to limit the reach of Chinese and Russian state-controlled media outlets, violating the social media platform’s own stated policies. In 2020, Twitter started labeling official government and state-controlled media accounts, and blocked the latter from appearing in search results. The platform announced last year that it would also begin flagging tweets that contained links to government-controlled sites such as RT.com or the Global Times, telling users to “Stay informed” and alerting them that Russia or China had editorial control over the outlet’s coverage. But in tests conducted by Semafor, the “Stay informed” labels no longer appeared, even though Twitter’s state-affiliated media policy still continues to list the measure as one way it’s providing “additional context for accounts heavily engaged in geopolitics and diplomacy.” And when Semafor searched for Russian and Chinese state-affiliated outlets like Izvestia, Xinhua, and the People’s Daily, their official accounts showed up as some of the top results... Twitter, which has eliminated its communications department, returned an emailed request for comment with an automated reply of a poop emoji. Elon Musk continuing to simp for fascist dictatorships as he tries his hand at forcing Twitter into becoming the next 4chan
Communion Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 (edited) There's no real evidence of a contradiction here as NPR getting the state affiliated media label hasn't come with all the other features previously seen for non-Western governments, like the disclaimers and the removal from For You or search content. It seems like they've just dumped the latter features all together. But not the irony of them interviewing actual literal Us state media for this: Quote Voice of America reporter Wenhao Ma previously reported that Twitter was no longer fully enforcing its state-affiliated media policy. VOA deserves the label 1000000x more than NPR. Edited April 6, 2023 by Communion
Illuminati Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 While simultaneously labeling the Ukraine war as fake news

ClashAndBurn Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 Tesla is pretty much entirely backstopped by China, and Elon has been extremely deferential to Xi Jinping for a while now. As for Russia, his feelings probably got hurt when the Ukrainians told him to **** himself over his extremely one-sided “peace” suggestion where Russia would get everything it wanted and Ukraine would be left an unsustainable, landlocked rump state with no ability to ally with other countries.
TeeJay Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 yea twitter is complete garbage since elon took over. My feed is always FILLED completely with republican bullshit suddenly, talking non sense, hating on lgbt issues, bashing democrats, conservative conspiracy theories ect.... I even click the little button thing that says "not interested in tweets like this" and instead of making them show up less, i swear they show up more lmao. A mess. I don't hardly even use twitter anymore because of it.
