Imagine casting someone else as McGonagall, Sirius Black or Snape when you had respected and Oscar winning actors playing those iconic roles. NONSENSE.

This. Harry Potter had the best talent in the industry.

Creatively bankrupt.

People are far too attached to the original cast and their actors for it to be a success

:aah: it will be peak comedy

I just want this to happen so I can die laughing. Being part of Harry Potter was something prominent British actors LOVED to do. You even had people like freaking Emma Thompson playing background characters and these fools think they can do better than that. What the hell... :deadbanana2:

So pathetic, disgusting, and ridiculous. And I'm not saying this because I'm a Potterhead or whatever. It goes beyong that and Hollywood needs to BURN.

The movies had some of the most iconic British actors as the professors and other adult roles, with some incredibly talented kids too. I can’t see this not being a mess. :rip:

Leave it alone, Hollywood!

it's too early

I doubt they will top the movies, they were perfect

Idk what to feel about this. HBO is making a HP TV adaptation/series with the INVOLVEMENT of JK 🥲 I will get me TORN how I'd love to watch it but then I will remember that JK HATES transgendered people with a passion 🙄

Idk how to feel about this comment. What did you expect? She owns the ownership of the characters etc and we’ve always known - since she sold the rights to the OG film when I was five - that any reboots or further adaptions would be with her involvement. This isn’t about her politics, it’s about the HP universe and we already know she wrote HP. We also know she has questionable views? Those overly regurgitated statements aside…. There are still tens of thousands of LGBT people who viewed her work as a safe space and will want to consume this as an art form without their community passing judgement or assuming that what they watch on television or read in print is remotely reflective of their personal politics and agenda’s.  It’s like blacklisting every movie and show Harvey Weinstein was associated with. Everyone here will have watched something he was involved in - doesn’t mean they find rape socially acceptable. A lot of people Don’t like modern day slavery and yet we all sat here and funded a conservatorship for 13 odd years doesn’t mean we agree with the abusive people we knowingly funded across five records, three world tours and a residency despite knowing what was off.  It’s a shame you’ve been made to feel this way but if you wanna watch it it doesn’t make you a bad person nor transphobic. Don’t feel guilty about it if you want to tune in.

OT - I’m kinda excited if this is an expansion, a little apprehensive if this is a reboot of the original stories. Whereas I always felt these stories would have been a lot better in a longer format (especially Goblet of Fire) - I’m kinda not ready to let the original cast go either.

Why not just make an original series set in Hogwarts/HP world? I mean the possibilities with this one are endless.

People are very attached to original characters, so I hope they don't mess it up

A big, fat NO.

Even without JK's involvement, there's literally no need for a reboot when the original is still so fresh in everyone's mind. From the comparisons to the backlash it will inevitably get for its ties to the author, this is a train wreck waiting to happen, I'm baffled they're not able to see this.

this is gonna be huge.

Also it's the best way to make original contents like entire episodes with flashbacks with events from the past (even things not in the book) without doing spin off movies.

Genius idea. People will love it.

ps: Harry potter movies are bad (the numbers six is a TERRIBLE movie) expect the first 3.

HBO spending money on this while canceling great shows like Raised By Wolves because it was “too expensive.” Meanwhile……. :rip:

meanwile spending money in what will easily be the most watched tv series of the decade.

Daniel Radcliffe and Emma watson were terrible in this saga, be serious.

Watson was good in the first 2 movies cause she was cute, then as teen she was so bad with this always angry face (this is how she act in every movie, in fact she's a mediocre actress).

Radcliffe was terrible until the last movie when maybe the fact it was the last movie made him emotional so he finally put some effort cause he didn't need to really act.

Bizarre take

I agree that I think I’d prefer a sequel set at hogwarts with new characters and new central villians; I assume they are afraid of it not catching on the same way fantastic beasts did not catch on. What they need to do is not let jk get anywhere near another script again and find a talented screenwriter to tackle this IP. I would be very interested in having perhaps the duffer brothers be involved as they created a similar magic in the early seasons of ST that the early movies of HP possessed if that makes any sense

Age appropriate casting this time?

The cast was 10 in the first movie :deadbanana4:

This sounds like a flop to me I hope Im wrong. I just cant imagine someone else playing Harry, Professor Snape and the rest of the characters :(

I'm usually not against reboots but what is going on lately :rip: I guess we've moved on from milking these franchises with sequels/spin-offs to just completely remaking barely 10 year old films

its going to be so weird seeing age accurate adult characters no doubt played by unreasonably attractive people

lol how times have changed, i remember around deathly hallows pt 2. a lot of fans were fantasizing over an HBO series. fancasts went crazyyy. i remember this post about a 3-season show on the hogwarts founders, which would be really cool. but im so divorced from this franchise. it ain't 2011 anymore, and fantastic beasts ruined so much.

and yes, emma was terrible in HP. every other young actor outacted her in this franchise.

the only way for this to be a success is to piggyback off of Hogwarts Legacy's success - fans are going CRAZY for new characters such as sebastian, ominis and poppy .... there are also iconic teachers such as professor weasley.. it's a no-brainer to use Legacy as a base.

if they're really just redoing the original story then i'll still watch it but i feel like it's the wrong decision to make

But again, if they make the show about any other character in hogwarts during any other time, I could see it being a hit. Now if they make it about Harry Potter again, than that's gonna suck

Snape: 31 vs. 54 (2 decades)

James: 21 vs. 42 (2 decades)

Lily: 21 vs. 33 (1 decade)

Lockhart: 28 vs. 40 (1 decade)

Pettigrew: 31 vs. 43 (1 decade)

Sirius: 31 vs. 42 (1 decade)

Hagrid: 62 vs. 50 (1 decade)

Voldemort: 64 vs. 41 (2 decades)

some minor ones

Myrtle: 14 vs. 37 (2 decades)

Tom Riddle: 16 vs. 23

If you think "blah blah who cares about the adults," the books emphasized many times how because of the war vs. Voldemort, people were getting married super young and having babies because they could die at anytime, so people like the Potters joined the Order right out of high school. And it made them dying so young that much more tragic. James being middle aged in the movie cuts that right out.

This is not what college aged actors look like.

THIS is:

hpdh2-09075_wide-1f796b5f588219e02495caf

But then again, their age is never mentioned in the movies. Back then, 21yo people would absolutely look like a 40yo person.
