African countries look to China for future growth and not America

"When US leaders visit Africa, they talk about China. But when Chinese officials visit Africa, they talk about trade and development"

In these types of projects, future generations are given hope and given pathways to living a better life. African leaders are being lectured about China's potential dangers by the USA instead of making similar infrastructure investments in China. The USA assumes African leaders don't know what is best for their own nations, which makes this strategy disrespectful to them.

Young Africans see China as most influential country: NOT America

*  The African Youth Survey 2022, which was conducted in 15 African countries, showed that 76 percent of young people view China's influence as positive while 77 percent see China as the foreign country with most influence on their continent.

*  Since the founding of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2000, Chinese companies have built or upgraded more than 10,000 km of railways and nearly 100,000 km of highways across Africa, and created a total of over 4.5 million jobs, according to official data released last November.

* In addition to studying in China, some young Africans are seizing business opportunities offered by China's digital trade, which has been booming in recent years.

“The US needs to call a timeout and treat Africans with respect,” she told host Steve Clemons, adding that the US-Africa Leaders Summit hosted by the White House this week “will fail unless Americans see Africans as equals”.

That’s because Africa is debt with China.

China simply learned from western powers approach to Africa and tried a different approach which benefits them and should benefit people from the African nations. Tho that doesn't mean they don't have their objectives and don't do their fair share of shady business.

At the end of the day African nations should do what's best for them, their development and their people.

Debt trap. China is pillaging their natural resources for cheap. Not that America won't do that, but the Chinese is more sinister about it. Just look at what they did to Kenya and Uganda.

China: We're pillaging every natural resource on your lands amounting to billions of dollars worth, but we're building you bridges and railways which won't last and only cost a few millions anyway. Oh and remember that now you'll be forever in debt to us.  China good. US bad!

Why blame US for EVERYTHING? Firstly, some African nations need to look at their corrupt leaders. Also, Europe has done more damage to Africa than any other continent.

They're all exploiting the African continent because of its abundant resources. China, USA, most European countries...They're all doing it and are good at covering that up.

Africa has never been a priority for the US, so I don’t blame African governments for building strong relations with a country that is willing to make major investments and improvements.

China knows full well most of these nations will never be able to repay financially.  They want payment in unwavering loyalty and to continue using local resources.  A debt trap is a debt trap.  The problem is they don’t have any competitive alternatives to choose from, which is where other nations like the US have majorly fumbled throughout history.

The Middle East is pivoting towards China as well. Middle Eastern countries want a society and China wants resources. Same applies with Africa and seems like a logical trade to me. Meanwhile, the USA remains an embarrassment and blood-thirsty bully to majority nations.

So basically they want an alliance in the way that the US and key European countries have treated smaller European countries - a level of partnership the West has explicitly denied much of Africa in favor of domination and exploitation. And this is now bad because uhhh it threatens American hegemony?

It’s both bad and good at the same time.  Everyone should want African nations to be provided the technology, expertise, and financial support to develop quickly and in a way that is responsible to their people.  China is doing good things here, but it’s at the expense of debt that cannot be repaid financially.  The same condemnation applies to any country doing this, western countries included.  I don’t blame them tho, and it’s a very smart move from China (they came up with this idea almost 2 decades ago).

Also important to note that China has little to no history of military conflict in these regions, so it makes complete sense why regions bombarded by former and current US expansionism / European colonialism would lean towards China.  They don’t trust western nations for a good reason, and hopefully China doesn’t make the same mistakes as western countries before it.
