Meat/Dairy Industry blocks IPCC From Recommending Vegan Diet

The $400 billion dollar animal-slaughter and animal-exploitation industry continues to avoid accountability and obfuscate facts regarding their role in the climate change crisis. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s March 20th Report originally stated “plant-based diets can reduce GHG emissions by up to 50% compared to the average emission-intensive Western diet” but was watered down to a vague and non-specific call for “balanced, sustainable healthy diets acknowledging nutritional needs” after pressure from Brazil and Argentina’s animal-slaughter and animal-exploitation industries, which are some of the most profitable in the global economy. According to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, animal-slaughter and exploitation industries account for up to HALF of the total global environmental impact of food production.

Okay, but what’s your solution to the environmental costs? :deadbanana:

That's the $400b newly earth-ruining meat and dairy industry's problem, not the meat consumers that have existed for all of history. Individual environmental responsibility is for the most part a myth. :bunny:

…. No. I’m not even vegan or vegetarian (I only chicken, turkey, and some fish). But this is just empirically not true. There is no environmentally friendly way to produce animals for meat consumption at the scale we consume it. Unless lab grown meat becomes mainstream, easy to produce, affordable to purchase, and people are willing to switch to it, there is no way to consume actual meat in an environmentally friendly way.

Combatting climate change will require we curb some of our inherently unsustainable practices. While, yes, the contributions of corporations is the biggest challenge, there is still a need to think over how we all can live sustainably in a way that we all can live dignified lives.

And developing lab grown meat further and other technological advancements is the responsibility of who exactly? The meat industry.

Overconsumption is dangerous to the environment and that’s why I said individual responsibility is mostly a myth.

And who exactly is fighting tooth and nail to fight against lab grown meat and other technological advances? The meat industry.

Current average consumption of meat is already well beyond overconsumption from an environmental perspective.

I don't disagree with either of those points, you spilled. I would just rather hassle corporations through petitioning, harassment, and being politically involved then pressing meat consumers(regular ass people) for solutions to global issues.:bunny:

This is what happens when you let corporations run loose and become this big (a natural outcome of capitalism btw)

The working class needs to start mobilizing to recoup some actual political power because there's no way things will improve as is.
