Stimulus
I get that moderators only have so much time, but this is still a little sad because it shows that ATRL users weren't doing enough to report or post rebuttals against transphobic comments. I'll certainly be paying more attention to threads about trans rights after this. Link to comment

Vespertine
Honestly, seems like it’s for the best. I’m sure some users will be_angry about this, but I’m sick of seeing the same transphobic losers flock to every JKR thread saying “some points have been made” or that everyone isn’t understanding “nuanced opinions.” It’s been gross and the arguments get out of hand in every single JKR thread. Polgg48
that's too bad for TERF heavy promotion in disguise which she probably laugh behind the screen in front of threads, elon next Link to comment

LoveInStereo
Thank god. It’s not constructive or productive to focus on her, if anything, you’re giving her a platform. If I didn’t go on here, I wouldn’t be aware of 1 thing she’s said since that 1st essay Link to comment

I might be misremembering, but didn't they have a (now deleted) post here saying "this site gets more embarassing each day"? Idk, maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I always find a member who just barely joined complaining about mods and the supposed decline of ATRL (due to more stringent anti-bigotry policies) a bit... sus. getBusy
8 hours ago, Ryan said: this is compounded by the fact that many of these comments unfortunately go unreported I've worked in content moderation in the past in the Tech industry, and part of the problem here is that ATRL does not provide any type of feedback after someone reports a comment. This decentivizes people from reporting again, because the users don't know if there was any action taken, or if they were wrong and the content was policy-compliant. If you've ever reported anything on FB or Twitter, you know what this looks like. It would be GREAT if we could get a follow up message after we report a comment, sharing if any action was taken or not. You don't even need to share details of the action taken, just something like 'Thanks for reporting, we took action according to our policies' or 'There was nothing against our policy in this comment'. DirtyPony87
We should just ban Harry Potter discussions going forward. They’re books for babies. Grow up. Link to comment
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted March 30 ATRL Moderator Share Posted March 30 This is a primarily LGBT forum and to me, banning a topic that causes so much harm to those in our community makes complete sense. Every JK Rowling thread I have seen since I’ve been a mod here has had some sort of transphobia in it, and even if we’re banning every member who’s offensive in those threads we’re getting new members or old members who finally get brave enough to post their hateful rhetoric. I just don’t think this specific battle is worth fighting if we can do a blanket ban to help our community. Link to comment

Lady Claire
Thank you We don’t have to discuss this hag’s dumb views nor see the awful transphobic takes by some stupid members from this forum. Everytime i got into a thread about that there was always some terrible takes so it’s definitely for the best. Good job mods Link to comment
Flare
I hate to be that person (deflecting slightly from the main point), but I’m surprised a line is being drawn at JK rowling, but equally bad things are being said daily on this site about various artists. Like the fat-shaming (for example) is at an all time high. Then there’s no warnings and threads are allowed to go on for pages. Also, so many Celebria threads are outright harmful misinformation baiting members into nasty arguments or problematic insults. The “source” sometimes is a tweet, using a clip from a gossip podcast, that has 500 followers. At some point we should clean up those things too if such a strong stance is against JK, who is just an external 3rd party and not even a member on this site who can *actively* post harmful things daily. UnusualBoy
I'm honestly not surprised that we got to that point but yeah, it's for the best. Link to comment

#Beautiful
there are other platforms and groups even some centered around the late 2000s have banned harry potter topics altogether although they were a huge part of that culture because if she deserves no platform or spotlight neither does her product. some food for thought Link to comment

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted March 30 ATRL Moderator Share Posted March 30 Im happy we reached this decision. For people saying “well what about azealia banks?” Terrible person or not, people don’t usually use her threads as an excuse to air out bigotry and hateful rhetoric disguised as “honest discussion” Link to comment
