I have moderator responsibilities on another website and it really is a nightmare the moderate this particular topic. Can't fault you for this decision.

I honestly could not care less if this looks like an “authoritarian” decision. Transphobic narratives should be eradicated, bigot “edgy” (mostly incredibly stupid) members should be banned, in our current climate were trans people are not only getting villanized but also targeted, topics like these should NOT be up for debate.

There’s nothing more to say about her at this point, and the point of “healthy debate” has long since past

I don't know how that's going to be all that effective. The same posters are still around posting similar povs on non-Jkr threads. If anything they evade getting reported.

I understand the reasoning behind this decision. The discussion about her transphobic views is always the same and it never goes anywhere. People who support her and think she's right will continue to do so unfortunately and you can't really reason with them so fair enough :michael:

That’s understandable. The only thing I liked about JKR threads is that they always exposed the ATRL bigots and I knew who to put on ignore.

I feel this way, too.

I've also noticed other sites and social media in general quickly locking her threads. She's not being outright banned but the discussions are just going in circles and everyone's picked up on it.

If Twitter ever gets decent leadership, she'll be kicked off there, too, and people can just enjoy HP in peace or ignore it like myself and not speak about her anymore. Will never understand how you can be so successful and exhibit such loser behaviour at the same time.

Even if topics of JK Rowling are banned, there is still a massive problem with transphobia on this website that needs to be addressed urgently. Stopping the discussions about her while still letting serial transphobes who have let their opinions be heard in those threads and most likely still have those viewpoints and WILL be present in threads about trans topics feels counterproductive.

Just my 2 cents :heart2:

:ahh: not sure this is the solution but the title had me cackling it sounded like it was satire

also i feel like banning said users who cant partake in civilized conversation without resulting to transphobia is the solution but given the amount of BIGOTS on this forum i guess that would affect traffic and ad clicks for you

lol and youre not even banning harry potter altogether. so youd rather ban people for bringing her name up rather than banning literal transphobes?

The censorship :rip: I don’t care about JKR but this is ridiculous

Fully support this decision :clap3: We need to stop giving voices to these bigots, both outside and on ATRL.

This is a good step. While I’m usually against this type of censorship, people who view themselves as “trans activists” while only ever talking about JK will now need to put their money where their mouths are and do things that actually help the trans community without the lazy virtue signalling. :clap3:

I think silencing people to talk about or discuss a particular issue is quite authoritarian.

I don’t agree with JKs views, but debating and challenging viewpoints and societal norms (especially ones that have accelerated rapidly) is a healthy part of humanity.

If we are going to ban threads about JK, then surely we should also ban threads about Kanye West, Azealia Banks and other very problematic celebrities who have also actively attacked minorities.

Ultimately though, this is a music forum so I don’t really care that much but I do think we need to be careful because this decision may lead to larger censorship, which may lead to us all living in an echo chamber. Disagreement is healthy.

This.
