Should We Ban Religion that Practice Shunning?

Recommended Posts

I was shunned by my family and long time best friends just because I am no longer a member of the religious organization (cult) they belong in. It's been more than a year now since I've heard from my mom and siblings and sometimes it makes me sad but thankfully I have a partner and a dog who make me happy all the time. But imagine those ex-members who live on their own without any kind of support and communication from their family and friends. Some of these ex-communicated members took their own lives for they can't bear the mental burden they experience from shunning.

So, should religion that practice shunning be banned especially in liberal countries? Discuss.

We should ban all organised religions or at least tax them and hold them accountable for the **** they do as any other international corporation.

There’s no way to ban religion unless you want to engage in genocide. It’s been tried for centuries and failed. The best we can hope for is keeping it as separate as possible from the law.

Freedom of religion is one of the fundamental human rights and it’s closely associated with freedom of thought and expression. It is the very notion that gives people a sense of freedom. It’s so fundamental enough to be in the First Amendment. It’s actually a safeguard against tyranny. To ban religion is to give the government the power to take away your freedom to think for yourself and express it thus you are forced to believe and act according to govt sanctioned beliefs.

There's no way you're not a dupe, or do you just scan ATRL everyday waiting for any thread or post relating to religion? It's actually creepy how like clockwork your posts are in every religion based thread and not much else :deadbanana2:

Since religious people belive in paradise why don't they all k-word themselves and go meet god? Would be a better world for "satanic" normal people :gaycat2:

That isn't possible I fear. Correct me if I'm wrong but upon reading up law, most countries' Constitution actually protects religion due to "Right to freedom of religion and beliefs". So yeah...

My username should already be a dead giveaway that my main interest is religion. But I also like to engage in topics about philosophy, science, especially space-related, and history. People have interests and it just so happens that mine revolves around big reality/metaphysical ideas.

No. Freedom of religion is a thing. Are we going to ban Freedom of speech too? We do need actual separation of Government and religion though. Ridiculous that people can pass laws because of their religious beliefs.

Exactly. Like, how are you constantly asking for money when most of your members are barely scraping by? :deadbanana:
