Smarticle Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Literacy and storytelling are important for learning
Trent W Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 There’s nothing wrong with it. I do not understand why they have to be specifically them tho. I agree with the poster that said that a pastor is more dangerous. A side from the sexual predators in churches, what they teach to kids is poison and being introduced to so much fear-monger at a young age can affects how you develop growing up.
Helios Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 I think you should be more creative with your OP instead of always just putting well.... Its lazy.
Pikachoo Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 (edited) of course they can. it's just dress-up, good grief. as if parents do not bring their kids to have them sit on a middle aged man's lap dressed as Santa conservatives really have no plan of action other than screaming about trans and drag queens it's ridiculous Edited March 25, 2023 by Pikachoo
GivingCher Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 We love a non-issue manufactured by conservatives But sure, if they’re allowed to watch Mrs. Doubtfire then why not?
cockatoo Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 In the UK Pantomimes are a huge thing around Christmas time. Essentially they're plays for children based on fairytales. It's tradition for one of the lead characters to be in drag (e.g. the ugly stepmother in Cinderella would be played by a man). No one thinks it's inappropriate, so I don't really understand this whole debate and the outrage
LoveInStereo Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 I don’t believe drag queens are a risk to have around kids or that the average drag queen is more sexualized than 90% of the media we’re barraged with on the daily. However, it’s just uncool. Drag’s roots are in the counterculture. The whole assimilationist, playing to suburbanites thing is antithetical to what it’s really about. I’ve never met a drag queen that wants a kid at their gig. Who starts doing drag in the hopes they’ll be a glorified babysitter or like a clown at a kids’ birthday? What fantasy is that, exactly? Sounds more like a nightmare to me
Aston Martin Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 There's nothing wrong with it. There is, however, plenty wrong with the fascist right valuing guns over the lives of children and systemically protecting the child molesters within their clergies for decades.
byzantium Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Yes. Fairytales are fun stories that can inspire a child’s imagination. I don’t know why people would be against children’s hearing fairytales.
Triton Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Yes, why not. Anything that helps promote reading among children is a Win. Plus is the drag queen dresses to fit the story then even better. Like people before have mentioned we have clowns, Santa, Disneyland…

Rotunda Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 (edited) A kid-friendly drag queen is no different than a clown or a magician. I do think the obsession from both sides over whether or not children should be exposed to LGBTQ+ things or whether people should be expected to moderate their behavior in public has done a lot of damage to public discourse. Cyanide Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 (edited) When did this all even start? Never even heard of a drag story time before all of this blew up. It’s weird that this is a hill that people want to die on, I know quite a few drag queens and have been to dozens and dozens of drag shows over the years and there has never been any crossover between drag and kids at least in my experience from living in NYC and LA. I mean, maybe someone will bring their kids to a drag brunch? But the suddenness of this is weird to me from both sides Like someone mentioned on the last page, queerness and children gets touchy REALLY fast and most gay people would want to avoid this so idk why the girls are putting themselves in those kinds of situations anyway especially the ones with a more sexual look and performance this and everything else is white liberals’ fault and the rest of us are gonna get dragged down as usual Edited March 25, 2023 by Cyanide
Archetype Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 I don’t see the problem. They’re entertainers and they do a damn good job at entertaining. Anyone who goes out of their way to volunteer to work with children (and isn’t a creep) is considered a good person in my eyes.
Betty White Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 I don't think it's nearly as serious as some people are making it out to be, but I also just don't see the point of it and think it's doing more harm than good for the gay representation. I also don't like how being gay has been associated with drag. I think drag is pretty misogynistic most of the time and if there wasn't an element of mocking women there would be no need for fake breasts or hips, female names, stereotypical over the top "female" behaviour or use of terms like "fishy".
velocity Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 No, I don't think so. I'm a huge drag fan but drag is inherentely explicit and kids should not be at the shows or involved with drag. There's no issue with the drag queens reading to kids out of drag, why does it have to be specifically in drag? Idgi
Pheromosa Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 you have grown men reading the bible to them and thats basically the same thing i dont see why not
Aethereal Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 8 hours ago, Communion said: Of course. Clowns are just straight drag queen and no one has issues with clowns. That is exactly what I was thinking. But I would find both drag queens and clowns scary as a child.
