JustLikeHoney Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 DeSantis to expand "Don't Say Gay" law to all grades. The proposal, which would not require legislative approval, is scheduled for a vote next month before the state Board of Education and has been put forward by the state Education Department, both of which are led by appointees of the governor. The rule change would ban lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity from grades 4 to 12, unless required by existing state standards or as part of reproductive health instruction that students can choose not to take. The initial law that DeSantis championed last spring bans those lessons in kindergarten through the third grade. The change was first reported by the Orlando Sentinel. https://apnews.com/article/dont-say-gay-desantis-florida-gender-d3a9c91f4b5383a5bf6df6f7d8ff65b6 Who didn't see this coming?
DirtyPony87 Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 Expected. It never ends for them. They’ll just keep going and going and going and going until all rights are stripped from already disenfranchised groups. Literal demons in human skin.
Elusive Chanteuse Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 Do the maga gays on here approve? I’m sure they are stanning.
qurl Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 we are up against some truly scary stuff and headed for some truly dark times
smoore95GAGA Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 What happened to “think of the children?” Guess we’re using that word semantically now?

They'd keep going until we're all in concentration camps if we let them.

Lara Croft Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 Why did it need to be part of the curriculum anyway? Let kids discover their gender identity and sexuality on their own..?
Archetype Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 Banning teenagers from learning about gender identity and sexual orientation through all of HS… that’s when you have the most questions about those exact topics wtf

No one was asking children to "pick a gender and sexual orientation". Also, this bans TEENAGERS through all of high school from learning about this too, which is beyond stupid.
305 Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 I'm worried about the future of FL. It really is such a great place to live your life but these politicians are making it harder and harder unless you side with them. I would love to move back at some point but I'm certainly re-considering now

You can read their comments endorsing the violence towards LGBT in both and out of US and then go wine about "WOKE ISSUES" and their social media account getting banned. Ahh the victims.

JustLikeHoney Posted March 23, 2023 Author Posted March 23, 2023 People in Florida need to vote. You are literally voting for your rights. You can't wait for someone to "excite" you into voting. That is the most privileged way to think about politics. Pretty soon Florida will have the same anti gay laws that Russia has. We need to take back Florida the way Georgia is slowly turning blue. We keep losing all the progress that has been made in the last 30 years. Look at where we are. Teenagers in school will be able to report each other if they are suspect to talk about gay issues. Do you know how that will affect gay teens in school? As it is the suicide rate for LGBTQIA youth is super high.

The problem is, Florida is becoming such a red state that they will just elect someone as bad as DeSantis the next go around. That's on them.
TheLastChord Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Btw, just another proof of how important it is to enact transformative legislation when you win and you hold power, and not be afraid of "losing the center." Republicans have turned Florida into a Texas 2.0 in just under 4 years.
RunUpDoneUp Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Noooo! But the smart, practical people said it was just targeted to trans people! Why would they move it even farther despite opposing lgbt people as a whole?! WHHHHHYYYY?! Conservatives have made it quite clear, all lgbt people are to die or convert, if you support the attacks on trans people you are supporting your own head on a spike.
Harrier Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Republicans will not be satisfied until they have Russia-esque law banning LGBT topics from public discussion, period

And unfortunately boys in particular learn their sexuality from p*orn. And that's not healthy imo. So at least it's good to learn that being straight and cis is not the only righteous way of life.

Health courses are largely required at some point in a school curriculum. Health and wellness includes lots of topics, yes. I remember our health course rotating with PE quarterly, so it often was focused on dietary topics, and during sophomore year, being switched out for Driver's Ed, but how else do tackle Health without acknowledging human sexuality and gender? And that's even before acknowledging that Sex Ed becomes a part of the curriculum for older students.

Health and sexuality courses are fine.. but this new, very much Western, very much post-pandemic curriculum that pertains to teaching kids concepts like neo-pronouns i.e Xe/Xer and confusing gender ideology, blurring lines between male and female and encouraging kids to seek resources to transition as early as possible is clearly off-putting to a lot of people
