me > mine.

Expected more, vocals are marvelous, but both sounds like album songs, not a comeback single

'Mine' is so good!

expected a little more for the last chorus but it's a great song

'Me' serves VOCALS but I definitely prefer 'Mine'

I don't think Kelly is aiming for a "big single"...she knows the tea.

She's giving emotion, vocals, melodies, and that alltogether would make a perfect Kelly album.

Yikes, sounds like a flop album like MoL??

Okay but now we have to wait 2 months for the rest of the album?! Ma’am that’s not-

move it up girl….

omg chill...please
the songs are not even out in the whole world. Take your time the songs. It's not her fault the world's full of anxiety right now lol

Also...I don't mind "predictable Kelly" when it comes to ballads.
I expect vocals, lyrics and melodies, not innovation.

My thoughts as I listen for the first time:

ME:

The choir in the first chorus took me by SURPRISE oh my god

the verses feel slightly disjointed

the tempo change at the bridge :jonny:

THE VOCALS the whole way through

she's cute!

MINE:

her vocals sound so similar to the Breakaway era!

this isn't the sound I expected from this song, very surprised

this is probably the least conventional song she's ever released

I think Me > Mine right now

While I can see the MoL comparisons (especially in the instrumentation), this is pretty different and on another level.

mine is transcendent. A break from formula that she needed with interesting production choices that actually mesh and enhance with her vocal power. If the rest of the album maintains this quality, it will be her best album

Try her YouTube page? It’s there for me, but perhaps it’s still private in the US.

If anyone was hoping for radio play with these, they aren't radio-friendly IMO. Definitely not "comeback" material, and they're her weakest singles to-date. Lyrically, though, "Mine" is heartbreaking. I think this is more of a personal album meant for Kelly herself - a cathartic experience for her - rather than us/the world/the industry, if that makes sense.

Oh my god Mine is incredible. I wasn’t sure what to think on first listen, but after a few more the chorus is a gut punch for me and I get all the feels.

This is a different formula from her and I didn’t know I needed it but I am in love with it. It would probably be a smash if a certain other artist released it but I’m hoping it performs well for KC. It truly deserves to.

Me is also a beautiful song that showcases her vocals but it would be safe and predictable for a single so I’m glad they went with Mine.

I hear what you’re saying but I disagree on radio friendly. Mine is an absolute grower. The chorus is stuck in my head after 3/4 listens. But I’m not expecting a commercial smash for her these days. I doubt Me was meant to be radio friendly but I agree I don’t think that one is.

"Me" would be amazing as a live performance, with the choir, on a big TV special.

I wish she would do a collaboration with Pink or Xtina on the album!

Kelly gets a lot of play on pop radio and adult contemporary stations. She’s clearly aiming for places that will play her music. I don’t see anything wrong with the release. She’s not trying to release a “hit” in the way some of y’all are talking about. We’re 20 years into her career. The days of her chasing hits are over. It’s time to accept that. She’s got a major platform in homes every day, she is making the music she wants/needs to.

OMG. I love these! Can't wait for the album! :jonnycat:

These are ok, but I was really hoping for a wall-of-sound You Outta Know banger.  hopefully the album has something with a bit more punch.

These are both very whatever. I don't expect her to put out hits but these are really uninspired artistically.

Honestly, I think it's fine if she's not trying for hits, especially when that means returning to her standard single formula. It's been giving diminishing since Piece by Piece.

She is due and deserved an era to spread her wings creatively in a way she hasn't since My December (on a non-holiday record). Even with a different sound, Meaning of Life's tracks felt more or less predictable in structure. Love So Soft might be the exception with the chorus switchup.

These two songs feel different, like they are from a mature artist pivoting into legacy/legend status. It's the right move for her at this point, I think. She can still do fun collabs or soundtrack songs too, but so far, this project seems intent on taking her in a new direction.
