The nearly three dozen ballots encompassed an eclectic range of covers recorded across six decades of popular music. The overall top entry is something of a surprise: No Doubt's 2003 reinvention of Talk Talk's "It's My Life," a single for their greatest hits collection, which received nine votes. It is followed by Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn," Sinéad O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U" and Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" as the #1 seeds in their respective regions. As usual, the draw is heavily weighted toward women, though a quarter of the entries are by men or acts with male members. Mariah Carey leads the field with four entries, followed by Whitney Houston with three and Britney Spears and Tina Turner with two apiece. Qualifying tracks come from as far back as 1966, with Nancy Sinatra's iconic "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)," and as recently as last year, when Kelly Clarkson debuted her version of Billie Eilish's "Happier Than Ever." Now, without further ado, a look at the 64 reimaginings that will compete to be named the most indispensable cover:
