Y'all: "The leaders of the Western world need to invade these EVIL countries in the Global South and we can do it because even the people there hate their country and want us to invade!!! No, trust us, it's true!!!"

Y'all, when meeting someone in the Global North who hates his country for what it has done: "YOU MUST BE A CHINESE SPY. WHO IS PAYING YOU? ANSWER ME!"

You want us to believe most Chinese people hate their government (but not enough to overthrow it!) because it is so horrific and horrible, but are in shock and awe when seeing one of the many Americans who resents their country for spending more time and money fighting wars than on ensuring everyone has healthcare?

If you can't understand why many Americans resent America for being unequal, then you don't actually care about inequality. You care actually about aesthetics and white supremacy in ensuring global domination for your Western hegemony way of life.

Girl, you have every right to be at at the US for all the shitty things it has done, it’s just crazy how you always turn your head when China does something wrong and then it’s whataboutism galore with you. :deadbanana2:

when China does something wrong

China becoming the leading economic force in the world and ending American hegemony is not "doing something wrong". That you feel such shows you have been indoctrinated to believe Western supremacy. "Yes, the US is bad, but ALSO no one else should be allowed to be bigger... look at how bad those other countries are...". :skull:

The only way Americans' lives will improve is when the US is no longer who controls the world.

You can either have the world's largest army and police state or you can have welfare and universal healthcare.

I know which one I want.

I don’t think our status as a world power has anything to do with the current quality of living here. We’ve seen in the past that it’s possible for our situation to be much better, but the rampant greed and socioeconomic divide in this country has been vastly growing because of the elite exploiting their power and rigging the system to favor themselves. This isn’t just exclusive to the US either. Other countries have also been seeing this phenomenon recently. China is no exception. Xi Jinping recently exploited his power to remove term limits and start stripping away any foundation of democracy.

So now The New York Times is confirming Forbes' story and going further, implicating the owner of TikTok. He's trying to separate himself from this by saying they were fired. Imho, again, the app's gone from the States in just weeks if months, max. Not a matter of if, but when.

are ya'll ready for the end of TikTok? :cm:

Yes… just after “AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM” goes viral :)

If ByteDance doesn't sell its ownership, the app goes, that simple. Regardless of any hypocrisy on the topic of surveillance generally.

Maybe he knows but isn't outright admitting that ByteDance won't budge. Which is too bad, but this has been anticipated for months.

Murica is so pathetic. All the servers are in the US, all the security protocols are being followed. They just don't want to see a non-US company, especially Chinese, succed in the area of social media. Tiktok is probably safer than any silicon Valley company at this point, and it's not like the Chinese government want to know what's Lousie's favorite eyeliner and go to titktok trend.

Racism against Asians plain and simple. F*ck the US government!  They keep selling guns to the brutal Saudi regime but they're outraged about an app?

Americans dying from being poisoned by their own government yet even Democrats are more concerned that some Level III developer named Haoyu living in Shanghai can access user's birth dates by virtue of having access to the database they're stored via the security protocols in the system he literally helped build when asked to block access to low-level employees in China. :deadbanana4:

That is why the original Buzzfeed article from like 2 years ago remains obscene. The goal post remains that no employees in China should have access in anyway to any American user data - even in the capacity of the Chinese employees tasked with building and showing American employees how to maintain the protocols built to make said data inaccessible to 99% of Chinese employees. It's basically a demand to shift all labor to America.

I won't lose any sleep, either way. TikTok, like most social media, is very tired and boring. Scrolling through your phone can only be so entertaining.

The music industry won't allow it

I don't really have an opinion about this. I'm waiting until he testifies before the senate on Thursday

This sounded more like a threat. 150 million people will be upset, millions of business won't be able to advertise on our platform, and 7000 staff members will get laid off all thanks to you!

You do realize that pretty much all major American and European apps were already banned in China for the same reason right?

US has greenlighted many Chinese apps like WeChat, Baidu, Bilibili, and AliExpress.

Even the video posted here says 150 million, so half of Americans have a TikTok account

I agree with you that this entire thing is pathetic and this is just a strategic move to punish China and get some PR traction for Biden - but do not downplay how valuable having access to data can be. Forget the eyeliner. Things like abortion, war, etc also have a space on TikTok and we live in the era of optics. If you can win the public opinion you can get away with so much.

TikTok should be banned everywhere
