So happy for How we Roll's success so far........wish she could perform it live while it's still hot.

I really hope she stays in this urban pocket and evolve tremendously from here.

She alienated her core fans with quirky songs like Jump and though level up was popular no one really took her seriously. Her music kinda became childish.

I think she realizes this now as HWR is doing far better than the last couple previous singles........ I just hope the next era is a bit more mature and more true to her.

She needs to also collab with people that "make sense" and actually add something to the song. I was really looking forward to BT w/ Summer Walker but then she was still giving that bubblegum popish sound......which turn both fans off. Same thing with the Lil baby collab.

This, but it's not a one-glove-fits-all all solution. Because the reality is that she never really stopped peddling R&B. Even though she's had corny songs, they often sat on albums that were still heavy on R&B.

The issue is that very rarely has the quality of her recent material been HWR-esque. Others have said this so won't over-repeat it, but it's as if she gets the scraps from the likes of Theron, who make a point of giving everyone else they work with the undeniable hits. For instance, you can see what she was going for with the likes of Greatest Love, but it's just not a patch on the songs from her catalog with that same slow jam sound. I still can't believe she wasted a Summer Walker feature on Better Thangs and that Da Girls even exists. All R&B, yet all meh.

And I'd argue that even this song isn't a patch on what the likes of Promise, Like A Boy etc were to their time. This is more a return to base norm than even a return to form. But it'll do.

To her defense, the EP is actually pretty solid, coherent, and a nice step in the right direction (though nothing really AAA...which baffles me given her resources).

At this point, I'll take spot moments she can capitalize on in the way we once dreamed a "comeback album" would. It's to her benefit that the industry has by and large done away with the whole "need" for a hit album. If she can keep churning out Level Up/HWR moments (and smart collabs like this Chris Brown link up) with some degree of consistency, she continue to remain somewhat relevant musically and always have credible stages to perform on...which in itself is the new "winning" in today's industry.

Yeah I agree. I really wish she would link up with  better/songwriters. The thing is..... Theron is actually a good producer but he doesn't take her were she needs to go, Ci wont allow him. He is a producer that doesn’t push back at her, he just goes with the flow. I think he knows the songs he & Ci be making are kinda mid, but since Ci is an independent artist who is in control of her own music....who is really gonna tell her no? (and that's the problem)

If she is gonna put more music out in or do anything 2024 I hope:

No more zumba-esque music / no more cheesy girl power music ......

Decent rollout for singles, stop with the 1 min teasers that spoil the song and waiting a month to drop it. Promote more outside of social media

Do interviews/podcasts and talk about the MUSIC and your CAREER only

Perform at more award shows, festivals and gigs.....possibly a tour.

I have been thinking this for a while.......... I feel like her team (Beauty Marks)  is low key trash and lazy..... they are so non proactive.

Hell even their instagram page (@beautymarksentertainment) barley gets updated. They didn't even post about her 2019 album or her 2023 EP....... or any singles.

I agree and really hope she implements.

I don't wanna sound pessimistic, but I'm not sure how feasible that will be when I think about it.

She is one of the best performers of her generation, but her musical ear is so shocking. Her not knowing that and thus not ceding power to others more skilled in that area will likely mean churning out a great body of work or even a solid, consistent string of singles will be a fluke if or when it ever happens.

On the interview front, I *definitely* want more of these recent interviews talking about her music, career hurdles, and business. e.g. like her Shade Room sitdown. It's her at her most interesting in 2024.

BUT...the reality of the matter is that her biggest selling point these days as a celebrity is her lifestyle and family unit. Any top-tier publication that books her will for sure want to centralize any and all discourse around that. Music will almost certainly be s few lines sprinkled in to placate her fans. It's the case every single time.

In not being totally negative, this points to why she ought to broaden her media game. She clearly loves snagging the Elles, L'umo Voges, etc. But good ol radio promo and online interviews can kind of be the medium she pushes her music as the bigger platforms serve no purpose for that side of her hustle.

Lastly, I would LOVE to see her tour. The issue (again, promise I'm not being negative lol) is that her name is bigger than her pull. Beyond her financial security and being a mom of four, touring probably doesn't feel that enticing of a venture for her if she's stuck in these small a** venues. Her talent and likely ambition in terms of what she can do on a stage befitting of her abilities will have to take a backseat to the realities of her predicament, which must be hard. Especially when her peers are in stadiums and relative newcomers are booking arenas.

It ain't all doom and gloom, though. She'd be smart to book another "special guest" slot on an arena tour like she did with Bruno. Or, like you said, get her festival game on (smartest play as there's no explicit pressure on "her" to sell). Or, suck it up, and do another Beauty Marks/Jackie scale tour for the 20th Anniversary of Goodies and from there rebuild her live momentum.

*sigh*

Yeah; her musical ear is pretty bad. Thus getting hit or miss singles ....... she never listens to her fans or anyone with sense.

I just hope she understands that we want MORE "body partys/how we rolls" and LESS "Jumps/Level Up" songs.

The song most likely peaked on those charts as of that week. It has been receiving negative updates on radio for a week now.

Still… hoping for a 70’s debut when the Christmas songs fall off. That’ll be great for an R&B song with NO push.. :clap3:

Would’ve been 68 without the Christmas songs this week so I’m sure it’ll debut l. But yeah it’s slowly decreasing at radio.

I underestimated the power Christmas Eve/Day and the day after has. It’s def debuting next week for sure as I originally predicted. I don’t see the song going anywhere after that though unless Ciara has something under her sleeve for the song like a pop remix or something major
