Though not a Chris stan (contrary to my username lo), I actually like what he brings to the table. So, I was actually hyped for their collab on paper. Especially given how much they both slay as performers. They are probably each others' male/female equivalent. 

 

HOWEVER...

 

This snippet is WACK. For goodness sake, why must Ciara always get the short end of the stick EVERY SINGLE TIME?

 

In R&B circles, a collab with Chris is actually a pretty big deal for her given how little noise her releases make these days. 

 

And yet, just like the Summer Walker collab, the end result sounds meh. 

 

Hoping there's some hidden magic embedded on the track that the snippet doesn't give away. That or the video is so good that it almost doesn't matter what the song is giving.

Also, we need to be real, there won't be an album unless a single sticks. And we're on, what, single 4 or 5 or 6?

 

Yes, she's not with a major label that would hold her to securing a hit before an album drop. But simple business logic dictates that if she can't sell a .99 cent single then a $10+ dollar album is out of the question. Even from a streaming standpoint, if it's hard generating interest for one song why release 10 at the same time? 

 

I'd much prefer these R&B girls, especially the "if only she would do xyz" veterans, would just drop EPs. Takes the pressure off sales-wise and is a cool backdoor way to dropping material to go on tour with (which is their real moneymaker).

I still don’t understand why she went indie. I love Ciara bops but I don’t see an artistic vision or something that is too different from her major label releases. The quality decline is just…..

Tbh, even if she got a hit, the album would've flopped anyway. It's been this way for Ciara since Jackie though I guess in the streaming era, the successful hit would've padded the numbers somehow, but that's only through streams.

Honestly though, Ciara can collab with whomever she wants, and clearly, the FANS have been begging for this collab for some time now. Her core fans are excited for it and as long as the music is good, I'm here for it.
