Europe Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Zachary Levi's Shazam 2 bombs at the box office with $30M opening Ant-Man 3 shatters record for worst 2nd week drop in MCU Black Adam flopped at the box office Morbius was re-released in cinemas to a huge box-office failure Quote 2022 was the year that superhero movies seemed to falter at the box office compared to other genres. In fact, not only did superheroes underperform compared to studio expectations but they were also a lot sparser in their release https://gamerant.com/superhero-movies-reaching-end-of-their-era/
Virgos Groove Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Slowly but surely, yes. I don't think they're completely done yet, but the public is far more selective after the MCU's mediocre last three years.
My Tears Ricochet Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 No way home feels like the last superhero movie that made any noise.
Da Vinci Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Marvel still has Deadpool 3 with the Hugh Jackman crossover/nostalgia gimmick up their sleeve Unless that underperforms as well Ugh if they **** up the X-Men I swear

But we had so many X-Men movies already.
Dialamba Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 I know it will never happen but they’re so predictable I would like a movie where the vilain wins For the chaos

Sadly Endgame was a mess and a all over fanservice movie
est. in 90s Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Endgame feels like the last superhero movie that made any noise
its_britney_bitch Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 God I hope so, I have never been on board with the superhero train

The vibe in the cinema when that movie ended was unreal.
Proseductice Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Yes, but it doesn't help that they're putting out movies for heros/anti heroes that no one really cares about.

Now we are going to get real xmen movies.
John Slayne Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 it definitely is for me. I've seen most pre-Endgame marvel movies and used to be excited for them, since Endgame I've seen Wandavision and the Doctor Strange movie which was kinda bad tbh. i just don't care for most of these releases, it feels tired and all the same.
GentleEarthquake Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Hopefully, Let's bring back dystopyan teenage movies
Blue Monday Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Sure seems like it. I’m sure if there was one that was Black Panther 1 level good I could see a rebound but honestly they’ve been spinning their wheels for so long and saturating the market, it just feels inevitable
CaptainMusic Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Yeah I used to love them but I’m getting tired

Worm Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 Hard to say when the quality of the films has taken such a huge nosedive the past few years. And the TV show tie-ins in particular are watering down the franchise, and making it so that viewers have to do the “homework” of watching a ten hour series before they can even see a film. There’s a lot of lost momentum and the bubble definitely feels like it’s about to pop. But maybe if they pare things down and focus on making better, fewer movies with decent writing and less bloat going forwards they can still save things.
cockatoo Posted March 19, 2023 Posted March 19, 2023 (edited) I feel like they've wrapped up a lot of the stories of characters the casual fan would know about like Spiderman, Iron Man, Captain America etc. As they try to make more films about more and more obscure characters, fewer people are going to care. I'll see what happens when Fantastic Four and X-men are rebooted, because that will be more of an indicator imo Edited March 19, 2023 by cockatoo
