Hope he serves April 30, 1945 :clap3:

And Xi's meeting with him in just days :skull: I realize the meeting was already pre-planned but...whew, lot to unpack here.

Whether it's equivalent is ultimately irrelevant and none of the parties will be "responsible", and I don't even know what that means here beyond poor symbolism, but much like the UN Security Council, and much like the ICC's actions regarding US troops in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Yemen, etc., nothing's going to happen here.

If this gets a thread then I'll do the other one re: Turkey I guess...

And what does this achieve exactly?

Of course this gets a thread. And someone should explain that what jurisdiction, if any, the ICC has over Russia. And how is this different from the Nuremberg trials?

The mods have been stingy in the past given the Ukraine thread which was formerly a sticky and which is the only reason I brought it up. And the ICC is a vastly different entity from the Nuremberg trials. I'm not even sure where to start as I don't have the energy to go down the links rabbit hole at the moment. But imho this is pure symbolism.

Good luck with that arrest you speak of

I guess it would really require something like the Nuremberg trials/ International Military Tribunal to get Putin and his administration in prison.

Russia transitions to be monthly president of the UN Security Council for April :ace: I'm all for symbolism, even if its empty pageantry, but here it just focuses attention on how useless all of these entities are, and still, nothing changes :coffee2:

First of all, to get Putin arrested and to stand for a tribunal for his war crimes, you'd have to invade Russia, take Moscow, and count on them not using nukes as a last resort to trigger mutually-assured destruction and take the entire rest of the world with him.

The ICC has no credibility either, given that they've not issued warrants for the arrests of Bush (Iraq invasion), Obama or Trump (for their numerous drone strikes). The US even has a law on the books triggering an invasion of The Hague if any of their military personnel or politicians are ever charged and imprisoned by the ICC for war crimes. It's actually a joke of an institution.

He will be placed in the same imaginary jail cell Trump is currently rotting in. :clap3:
