Why is Colombian food seen as bland?

I feel like I keep seeing overseas girls  calling out colombian food for being bland. It's not latin American food that they don't like because they always site Mexican and Peruvian food as good and it's definitely not that they don't like spice because they love Indian and Thai food and colombian food has no spice.. so why so much hate for colombian food? Is it really that bad?

I've had it and honestly it's not my fave and it doesn't have much flavor, it's not something I would eat everyday but I do like certain items like the bunuelos and some of the soups. The juices are great too but other than that I didn't find it special.

Because it is

And the "juices" are indeed good :coffee:

I mean you can’t win them all? Colombian nor Brazilian food is really renowned through the culinary world or broader pop culture, but those countries are both known for beautiful, happy, healthy people.

Mexico has amazing cuisine, but also has the highest rates of obesity among Latin America.

I guess it's because it's not really famous outside of Colombia. I'm a neighbor country and I have no idea what Colombia's food looks like

As far as I’m aware, I’ve never had Colombian food. Any recommendations?

I didn't know that, I've never tried Colombian food :chick2:

I’m sorry it wasn’t stuffed with corn starch and contained fresh ingredients that don’t cause diabetes. Try deep frying it next time

So you're one of those people than think that overseasoned food is good cuisine?

You sound insecure. Italian, Greek, Portuguese, Spanish cuisines are some of the best in the world. Tell us what you prefer, miss eats like a pig?

OT: Because it kind of is

That’s totally incorrect :priceless:

Our food taste natural , we have real fruits , vegetables, and we keep its natural flavors, so it is always fresh and healthy.

Yeah I don't get it. Over-seasoned food is why we have so many americans with heart issues. Ironically, my ex was Italian but he ended up developing high blood pressure because he over-seasoned his pasta meat. He would add two tablespoons of salt, garlic salt, laury's salt, and he did add many herbal spices but it was not enough to compensate the sodium he added to the meat. High blood pressure also runs in his family so it was only a matter of time til he was diagnosed with high blood pressure. He was very fit too but this goes to show you that no matter what your physique is, take care of your body and watch what you eat.

As a Puerto Rican who grew up on seasoned food, I now use less salt in my food. A lot of Goya products has MSG (Sazon, Chicken boullion, and Adobo). I don't use those products anymore. I make my own Sazon and Adobo from scratch with NO SALT (since I'm going to use regular salt anyway) and honestly its ******* amazing and my grandma taught me all of the ingredients. I've gotten so many compliments from my cooking and now, a lot of Puerto Rican restaurants in NYC are also no longer using Goya products and are now making spices from scratch. Your taste buds eventually adapt. A few years ago I couldn't go a week without eating two or three bags of Lays chips. Now days, I can't even stomach it because my taste buds adapted and now anything too salty makes me nauseous.

Very true. One of my friends is Colombian and at her bday barbecue she had her relatives from Colombia come over and cook. The food was amazing. Anybody calling it bland must be addicted to high sodium.

I guess it's a cute next to gorgeous situation, I mean, every latin american country fails to deliver compared to Mexico and Perú, just like Colombia, Argentina, Chile, etc, really yumy still though!

This is why you're supposed to use fresh herbs and spices and not some manufactured seasonings out of a bottle.

Agree and I wish they would stop selling seasonings out of a bottle especially if it has added sodium. Everything taste so much better from scratch anyway.

Have you eaten real Italian food? It is extremely flavorful, however Greek & Sicilian desserts trumps Italian cuisine, I'm sorry. Why I am hungry all of a sudden?

Colombian food, I don't think I have ever had it. Can someone tell me the flavor profile (sweetness, tartness, savory)?

Is not bland. There's a lot of really good dishes here. We just dont overspice things like other countries.
The fruit here is real real nice (Tastes like real fruit) and cheap. (Sadly things are changin with the new goverment and their horrible mismanagements)
All the people calling it bland are 4 sure extranjeros eating the "almuerzo ejecutivo" low budget food for people who dont have money here
We have some legit good restaurants with great colombian dishes and fusion stuff
Food is amazing here if u go to the right places.
If you eat in the cheapest place it will be not good. Very common with tourists. They need some guidance.
If u eat a bland white arepa at a random place it will be boring.
If u go to the right restaurant theyll give you arepa with all kinds of relleno and stuff and they can be great
There's big a variety of dishes to eat. Some good some bad :gaycat4:

I’ve only had Buñuelos and their Arepas and I like them not the most flavorful but not every thing has to be a spice bomb.
