Moloko Plus Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Quote "I can remember exactly when my epiphany was," Biden responds in the clip. "I hadn't thought much about it, to tell you the truth. I was a senior in high school and my dad was dropping me off ... [I was] about to get out of the car and I look to my right, and two well-dressed men in suits kissed each other." The president continues: "I turned and looked at my dad, and he said, 'Joey, it's simple, they love each other.' ... It's just that simple. It doesn't matter whether it's same-sex or a heterosexual couple, you should be able to be married. What is the problem?" https://people.com/politics/joe-biden-daily-show-interview-same-sex-marriage/
MoonGoodandHappy Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 (edited) Gay icon. I love him. He said gay rights again and we're here for it. Edited March 14, 2023 by MoonGoodandHappy
Harrier Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I mean it could be true, I want to give old man Joe the benefit of the doubt here
Grown K Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Maybe I'm crazy but I'm pretty sure I've watched an interview of him from back in the day being against gay marriage.
Filpo Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Why does he tell it like a gay feelings awakening story?

Solaria Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Okay? Thanks for the bare minimum I guess. What’s his plan for dealing with transphobia?
ATRL Moderator feelslikeadream Posted March 14, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted March 14, 2023 Why is OP framed like he's lying? Sure, there was no largescale gay liberation until 1969, but the homophile movement existed in the 1950s and queer people were already moving to cities and starting to congregate in bars, public cruising spots, etc. etc. The first gay magazine One, was first published in 1953. While he probably wouldn't have seen gays kissing openly all the time if he wasn't in San Francisco or something, it's still VERY possible he saw an out and proud couple kiss one time, especially if he and his dad were on vacation in a big city.
Thickorita Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 So his dad said all that and yet he still ended up openly opposing gay marriage?
Bacardo Royale Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 not believable particularly his dad's response

So his father taught him in the 50s that love is love so he could grow up and say this? Edited March 14, 2023 by Grown K
TheLastChord Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 The story itself could be true, but the "epiphany" part rings hollow consider his stance on the matter didn't change until the 2010s.
Mitsouko Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Y’all know gays didn’t invent coming out of the closet in 1983 right?

Heartbreak Prince Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I'm sure I've read him telling this story before, so it's probably true. However, his dads response is probably made up nn.

What? Both things can be true. Joe's statement here doesn't mean the experience he recalled never happened.....
Specter Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 I love an epiphany reveal that happens to be strategically close to an election!
