They used to do it that way, I’m pretty sure. The passion pick #1 votes are definitely a more recent development. It’s not my favorite way of doing things, but I also don’t think we’d have gotten nominees like Banderas, Negga, Cruz, Mescal, Dafoe, Rampling, BTH under a different voting system. Overall, I think the system benefits acclaimed performances in films that aren’t across the board contenders.
EnigmaticAndroid Posted January 12 Posted January 12 (edited) A biT gagged that Anantomy AND Zone both made PGA. Very unusual for them. We have our BP 10 in all likelihood. Edited January 12 by EnigmaticAndroid
hausofdave Posted January 12 Posted January 12 TCP is so dead, both Anatomy & Zone getting in strengthens my faith that Glazer and Triet are both getting into Director
Konril Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Gagged at Anatomy of a Fall and Zone of Interest making it in. Sandra Hüller better rise. The Color Purple dead?
QueenofCopyPaste Posted January 12 Posted January 12 RISE SANDRA VOYTER HULLER RISE, THIS IS THE BEGINNING 1
WildAmerican Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 (edited) Cannes kinda slayed this year if Killers, Anatomy and Zone all get into Best Picture... and May December dd Edited January 12 by WildAmerican

harwee Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Apart from TCP not making it, overall very predictable from PGA.
wesleywalrus Posted January 12 Posted January 12 I feel like TCP will still make it in. Oprah's promoting it, they all are. Has anyone seen Zone of Interest?
fridayteenage Posted January 13 Posted January 13 (edited) The promo for the film is a bit...toxic, makes the film seem like a misery to create Also Oprah herself was snubbed for butler after sag and bafta noms Edited January 13 by fridayteenage
hausofdave Posted January 13 Posted January 13 CCA looking like clowns after snubbing both Zone and Anatomy when the even PGA went for them

WildAmerican Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 Just saw Poor Things and my god, I'm stunned. Movie of the year (or last year)
fridayteenage Posted January 13 Posted January 13 i read the book a few times. read a quick summary of the movie and they certainly changed some major bits, mostly in the early and late parts. Max, not Bella, is the narrator for the sections before and after she's traveling throughout Europe, which is why a lot of people thought Ramy Youssef would have a bigger part than he does. Most of the stuff with Alfie is made up by the film. Bella reveals that all the sci-fi Frankenstein stuff was made up by the delulu Max who fancies himself a writer. I suppose to make Bella more of the lead, give a spicier climax, and be more accessible/non-confusing to the movie audience.
X~MoviePoP Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Oprahs snug for the butler was so dumb, she deserved that nom...the color purple idk..i thought it was alright but the original is so much better to me. I just want halle to get the original song nom thats all
Hector Posted January 13 Posted January 13 British Society Of Cinematographers Nominations: Rodrigo Prieto – Killers Of The Flower Moon Matthew Libatique – Maestro Hoyte van Hoytema – Oppenheimer Robbie Ryan – Poor Things Linus Sandgren – Saltburn Just watched All Of Us Strangers a second time and had another ugly cry to it, love it even more I hope it at least gets the flowers it deserves at the BAFTAs that the Oscars ain't giving the following week.

fridayteenage Posted January 13 Posted January 13 it'll be interesting if leo surprisingly misses out in a year where giamatti is in when in 2004 giamatti surprisingly missed out while leo was in 1
hausofdave Posted January 13 Posted January 13 if they manage to get another double female director lineup post covid, then i’d wager Lanthimos will be the shocking snub come nom morning (Villeneuve 2.0). make sense (especially in the wake of both Anatomy and Zone making it into PGA), but predicting the go-to foursome of Gerwig-Nolan-Lanthimos-Scorsese and then one of Glazer / Triet is the safer route, for now ig
teresaguidice Posted January 13 Posted January 13 i thought barbie would be stronger, but i could pretty easily see a gerwig director snub at this point
Liafen Posted January 13 Posted January 13 First we had Amazing Amy framing her husband & killing her ex, then Miss Lydia Tár metooing herself to the top sending death threats to kindergarteners in the process, and now Husband-Killer(?) and Knitwear Legend Sandra Voyter is eating up the french court one silly robe at a time.… ahh the way you just have to STAN these convicts 3
futurenostalgic Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I'm fr predicting Aunjanue Ellis tbh... Frances Fisher, her power.
