I really doubt it, but it seems it's not a problem for Scorsese. Didn't Nolan want a spot in the competition for Oppenheimer, but the festival said no? I would prefer both films in comp instead of some forgettable european filler. :celestial5: Nolan would've been perfect for Cannes, because he's releasing in July, Scorsese could've wait for Venice.

maybe he didn't want to jinx it like tar, which OMHs used against michelle for the whole year as proof asian excellence would lose, only for tar to get 0.

I wonder if this year will be similar to last in terms of early predictions being totally off. Kii if KotFM, Barbie, Oppenheimer, and Past Lives are non-events this year.

I still think Past Lives is our probable Best Picture tho. :psych:

Doubt it, I think there will be a film that comes with full force at the end of the year, unlike EEATO being unchallenged all season long. Past Lives hasn't got hype as big as eeato as well.

Some of the recent test screening reactions to Barbie (they screened two versions; one edited cut for families with kids aged 9-14 and another aimed at those 15+) and it seems like it’s just reaffirming my gut feelings on this being a misfire that appeals to no one outside some hardcore Gerwig / Baumbach stans (when it already looks like the worst film either has made so far.)

A single BTL Production Design nom feels like a ceiling at this point. Maybe the reshoots and last minute tinkering will help but The Stepford Wives remake vibes are just growing.

Is a Dune: Part III even coming? This could very well be the last one.

I quite doubt it, because in categories like Cinematography, Production Design and Film Editing and at some extend Score and Makeup sequels rarely win after the original won them, unless they bring something really new to the table or there's no actual competition. It's definitely winning again in Sound and VFX.

Lotr one 92 metascore

Dune one 74 metascore

It is not the same, I've barely even heard anyone talk about the latter

Beau is Afraid was so ******* funny. Amy Ryan, Nathan Lane, Kylie Rogers, Patti Lupone, Zoe Lister Jones, and Parker all deserve supporting nominations

Patti should be in contention but the Academy won't keep the movie on long enough to get to her scenes.
