Saltburn love is so unserious. Is so obvious it’s only getting love because it’s on their home turf. Especially since it managed to miss Best Film.

May December is losing steam quick. I wonder if Maestro campaigning is hurting it now I’m still expecting Melton to be nominated at the Oscars but winning is looking like a long shot

The America Ferrera campaign is growing stronger and stronger.

Femme was great, truly one for the “my childhood bully hit me up on Grindr” memes. It was fun seeing an explicitly gay and modern psychosexual thriller — especially on a PLF screen :rip: — and George MacKay goes all in but it’s a shame that Nathan Stewart-Jarret is not also in the mix as his performance was just as noteworthy and it was his character’s movie. I guess MacKay was the more explosive / showy of the two and his arc feels more classically “tragic”.

Although I’m surprised MacKay made it in at all over Harris Dickinson considering what a moment he is having now between Scrapper and The Iron Claw, especially with how popular the former was in the longlists.

Also felt more surprised at Cailee Spriney going missing than I am Portman. Annette Bening continues chugging along nicely.

Was so pumped to see Cara Jade Myers name pop up too.

Also rooting for How to Have Sex and Rye Lane maxing out their nomination potential.

Need to see both Mia McKenna-Bruce and Vivian Oparah make the final line-up as jury selections please.

And look I love America Ferrera but I’m still bemused about this surge. I completely forgot about her character until that didactic, jarring speech started doing the rounds on Twitter and has become a rallying cry for the movie’s worthiness, which I guess, I’m not going to wade into that one, but it still doesn’t make it a BSA performance. The script trying to juggle the real world family into the story was some of the choppiest.

I think she does far more in Dumb Money, so if I take it as a body of work moment, I’m happy.

Well west side story got raves and went down 90 percent in Oscar wins from the original

While tcp went from drama to musical, still the same story that a lot of ppl remember i.e. the target audience, so not shocking it would likewise be received less well

Finally somebody else said it. The material was bad, but a better delivery would've sold that monologue much better; she was giving Dora The Explorer asking us can we see the bridge on the map. I'm also baffled by the love for the Barbie's script in general, like a lot of people thought it was gonna win original screenplay?? I found it quite uneven.

I guess it's not just black people you choose to be racist about. Because what is THIS? :biblio:

Yeah Ferrera would be a bit much in BSA. Miles and miles and miles behind JLC I think and that win caused an uproar. :skull: It's a very one-note, nothing special servicable performance (and tbh she did well with the script but come on).

The crazy thing is that a Robbie missing-Ferrera getting in is not an unlikely scenario at this point.

Yes, that's why Ferrera is miles, miles, miles behind Jié Mi Li and her performance.

Though she's riding off Barbie's juggernaut status too.

I ~liked Jíe Mi's win for the meme, but yeah Chau and even Hsu were robbed blind; I feel that win will only get more and more flack as the time goes on

Even as a Barbie stan who would love to see it max out at the Oscars, Ferrera would be a waste of a spot. :rip:
