WildAmerican Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 it scares me to think what Bradley Cooper will do if Maestro doesn't win him an Oscar 1
fridayteenage Posted January 3 Posted January 3 3 hours ago, Komet said: Not Cooper, I hate it here. Him not winning for ASIB was a travesty, but I'm really put off by projects like Maestro whose only purpose is to be a vehicle for awards. I'm glad he's thirsty for it, but I'd rather him win for something not as tryhard than rob us of either 1) Murphy win for an iconic role or 2) Giamatti win who acted circles around both of them. While we're on topic of BA, I could live with DiCaprio missing tbh, I'd much rather see a more interesting choice sneak in like Scott/Efron/Keoghan. If u don't like movies that seemed made for awards since they were announced then Murphy and giamatti should be out too. Now, Andrew Scott or Jeffrey wright otoh... 1
Liafen Posted January 3 Posted January 3 I won't say I don't get the hype for Gladstone but to me her performance was just great. Nothing that really stood out or stayed with me in the long run. An exceptional Supporting Actress turn, but not an exceptional Lead Actress role. I wonder what was the decision process to campaign her for the latter. 1

kandicha Posted January 3 Posted January 3 It was so close to the start of voting I assumed they were letting it stay in Best Original Screenplay. Not this last minute curveball lol
Komet Posted January 3 Posted January 3 2 hours ago, fridayteenage said: If u don't like movies that seemed made for awards since they were announced then Murphy and giamatti should be out too. Those two movies are nowhere near Maestro level of oscar baiting imo Anyway, are we ready for Saltburn's screenplay nom, everything is going the RIGHT way for that movie
Liafen Posted January 3 Posted January 3 What’s the reasoning? That they’re not original characters? Cause moving forward every biopic should be deemed as adapted then
Komet Posted January 3 Posted January 3 23 minutes ago, Liafen said: What’s the reasoning? That they’re not original characters? Cause moving forward every biopic should be deemed as adapted then Yeah, preexisting characters, the same reason why sequels go adapted too. Biopics are based on real people and events, you could use that argument to put any movie about a historical event into adapted then. Personally I find it kinda dumb, basing the script on some other story and just using already existing characters is not the same but whatever.

Personally I find it kinda dumb, basing the script on some other story and just using already existing characters is not the same but whatever. Well, I find both to be stupid. If your totally original script using a well-known character that is preestablished for the general public is deemed as an adapted screenplay, should it matter that the character is a real person or not? Heck, one could argue that the Darkest Hour is even more of an adaptation than Barbie because the former is more heavily outlined by history and the events of Churchill's life. Both examples should be in original. Edited January 3 by Liafen 1
Alyssa Edwards Posted January 3 Posted January 3 If we accept the fact that Oppenheimer is not winning Best Picture, who do we proclaim as the most likely winner on this January 3rd ?

Eóghan Posted January 3 Posted January 3 the thing is all the reviews praised "barbie" for being such an original/unique script, not for being a great adaptation of a toy such a weird decision, "promising young women" (another feminist story) won best "original", and just like that one, it looked like Barbie's only chance to win anything. they probably saw yet another feminist story (women talking) win best "adapted" just last year and thought it doesn't matter which one we put it in. 1

I wonder what was the decision process to campaign her for the latter. I agree overall, her character basically works in relation of the Di Caprio one, they probably decided to do that because she still has 1 hour more or less of screentime in a best picture contender that can possibly win, sometimes being in the stronger movie is enough to pull a win, plus she has a strong narrative with being the first American native actress to ever win and even getting nominated. 1
Almodusa Posted January 3 Posted January 3 They’re apparently not handing out the two honorary awards at the Golden Globes this year

futurenostalgic Posted January 3 Posted January 3 tbh im not really bothered by Gladstone category since we've had a bunch of these types of performances in Lead throughout Oscar history and no one batted an eye. and ofc, her narrative matters a lot to the studio's campaign. 1
