Society of the Snow is super strong, it got shortlisted in 4 categories. If BAFTA do the same with their longlist then Netflix need to push it more

Watched "Poor Things"

Emma Stone carried but not to the level worthy of a "Second Oscar", at least this soon

Great cast ensemble as well.

That black guy actor was so convincingly bad though :rip:

------

Sandra Huller >>> still the best female lead for me this year.

Just watched Priscilla.

The lead actress is... extraordinary ? I didn't expect her to be this genuinely brilliant. The only thing is, while watching the film i was thinking "Isn't she supposed to have an accent" ? But i've never heard Priscilla Presley speak so i don't know how southern she really sounds. But other than that, this young actress is here to stay methinks. She better be !

Jacob Elordi can really act too, strong performance ! :clap3:

As far as the film, it's alright. It feels long at mutliple spots and Copolla's still incapable to portray chemistry or "a spark" to save her life.

It's alright. Which is a very high rating for her standards so... good job ?

  • “Camp Isn’t Home” – Theater Camp

Finally a group that doesn’t feel the need to nominate three songs from one movie. Some regional critics are so lazy with their nominations, it feels like they just transcribe the gold derby top contenders onto a template and call it a day.

'Anatomy of a Fall' was good and Sandra Hüller performance as well but honestly I was expecting more, I wasn't slayed, for the kind of praise it is getting I was expecting a better and more original movie with more dynamics or an unexpected turn

Spoiler

overall the movie felt like tones of similar trial ones where they don't show what happened exactly and let the viewer decide, I needed more.

carey feels like someone who's getting in at all the major precursors this year but will end up getting snubbed on oscar day :cupid:

leonardo is also vulnerable but his film is much stronger + best actor isn't as competitive as best actress

Watched Maestro.

Bradley has become my frontrunner (so far) for Best Actor. What a performance ! :chick2:

Him and Cailee Spaeny have given the best performances i've seen this year.

The movie had some pacing issues (similar to ASIB) but there are scenes that are so well directed and where the mise en scéne is so impressive that i believe he's ready to get into the Best Director lineup... Or close to being ready.

Not a perfect film but some moments are so objectively strong that i have to give it up to him, he's proving himself to being both a great actor and a real director. He just needs to figure out how to edit more efficiently and he's golden. :clap3:

Carey Mulligan was almost the best i've ever seen her (Either this or Mudbound.)

Spoiler

The snoopy scene :jonny5:

His acting during the interview scene where he talks about having a hard time being alone :jonny5:

Carey when she's laying down making those little noises with Bradley holding her in bed while she's sick with cancer :monkey::'(:monkey::!ohno::monkey:

hmm, all-precursor snubs

Zhang Ziyi – Memoirs of a Geisha

Tilda Swinton - We Need To Talk About Kevin
Marion Cotillard - Rust and Bone
Helen Mirren – Hitchcock
Tom Hanks - Captain Phillips
Emma Thompson - Saving Mr. Banks
Daniel Brühl - Rush
Jake Gyllenhaal – Nightcrawler
Idris Elba - Beasts of No Nation
Amy Adams - Arrival
Hugh Grant - Florence Foster Jenkins
Timothée Chalamet - Beautiful Boy
Taron Egerton – Rocketman

Ruth Negga – Passing

Lady Gaga - House of Gucci
Caitriona Balfe - Belfast
Viola Davis - The Woman King

Eddie Redmayne - The Good Nurse

neither carey nor leo fit. Assuming Gladstone and Cooper are locks, a co-lead hasn't missed while their co-lead got in with that situation.

Most of the snubs are in films with 0 acting noms.

Captain Phillips - supporting got in while lead did not

Florence Foster Jenkins - lead got in while supporting did not

Belfast - supporting last minute switcheroo went with Dench instead of her co-star.

Actress and Supporting Actress feels extremely stiff this year as far nominations go. I believe the nominations ballot for the Oscars is gonna be tight.

Dr. Alexander

I caught an afternoon show for The Color Purple. It took me quite a while to find a theater with good seats. All of the theaters were sold out, which was surprising to me. They definitely have a big hit on their hands.

The film was enjoyable, but I do not see it being a big contender for this award season. There were some problems with the directing, pacing, and screenplay.

Danielle Brooks will be nominated for the Oscar, but I am not too sure about Fantasia at this point. What I can say though is that if they are deciding between Margot and Fantasia, they should go with Fantasia. Margot in Barbie wasn’t anything to write home about.
