I think considering how BAFTA are continuing to drift from Oscar consensus in recent years since the jury vote, I do wonder how good a showing The Holdovers or American Fiction will have with nominations; if Da’Vine will be prevented from doing a clean winning sweep it would likely be there.

Well they changed rules, then changed again then changed again to revert to more Oscar picks

All of the lead actor nominees were bafta picks, for example

why is bradley campaigning for director again :bibliahh: did he not learn anything from 2019

Roundtables are not only about campaign, there's always people who eventually don't get nominated or not even in awards conversations who do that, it's also about talking about their work and overall promo for their movies, which it's not even his case since so far he got nominated in the precursors as director, he directed a movie that is in the awards conversation in different categories and he has all the rights to talk about his experience as director regardless if he gets nominated or not at the Oscars.

Plus just because somebody got snubbed it doesn't mean that they have to give it up for good, imagine if all the actors or directors gave up campaigning just because they got snubbed once, snubs happen every year to everybody.

Just saw American Fiction. What an amazing film. A great and funny satirical social commentary film with heart as well.  Jeffrey Wright & Sterling K. Brown both on point in the film,  both would be deserving Oscar nominations :clap3:

You're talking about ASIB right? He got an Oscar nom for producing, writing and acting the 4th version of that story, so hard to feel sorry that he missed out on a Directing nom, a bit greedy

who woulda thought a few years ago that the follow-up to marty/leo's wolf of wall street would make less money in the US than the daniels' follow up to Swiss Army Man?

Well the movie didn't direct itself, it got 8 Oscars nominations, it's actually quite absurd not recognize the director behind the whole feature, a movie being a remake doesn't automatically make it good like the previous one, not sure what's the sense of bringing greediness as argument to justify a snub when we're talking about recognition of a work, it's like saying that Villeneuve didn't need to get nominated for 'Dune' because he got other nominations for it, this argument doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway nobody mentioned feeling sorry for him, he got his achievements for that project indeed, mine is a reply to your post implying that he should not campaign as director because of what happened that time.

Didn't say he shouldn't campaign, that must've been someone else.

I said it's hard to say he was snubbed considering he got 3 Oscar noms for making a movie that had already been made 3 times before him

All the media outlets of the field referred to it as snub, when you get recognized to all the precursors and you miss the final one it is considered a snub, the fact he got other nominations or that the movie is a remake don't change the fact he got snubbed by the Academy in the director category.

Variety:

Quote

While Cooper was nominated for best picture, screenplay and actor, his name was noticeably missing from the director category, recognized as a shocking snub in Academy history but further cementing Hollywood’s embrace of his turn in the director’s chair.

Monster by Koreeda topples The Holdovers as my top film of the year. It gets the rare 5 out of 5 from me and positions itself as one of my favourite films in recent memory. The twists! The turns! The unraveling! Such a phenomenal film. Go into it blindly.
