The way Golden Globes can include Golden Globe Award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement easily but when the Oscars tried to introduce Academy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film, everyone dragged the Academy.

Goes to show how people perceived Golden Globes as the lesser circlejerking of Hollywood than the Oscars. :lmao:

Alma Pöysti :deadbanana:

Just goes to show how much the new international members have affected voting, and consequently, how much the Globes continue to mean less (relatively) to the Oscars.

The odd thing is that I can see BAFTA put both her and Huller in as well. SAG will be the main barometer.

i think that was the only big film surprise tho

gold derby: drama picture 6/6 predicted, actor 6/6, actress 6/6

comedy picture all were from the top 7, actress the top 5 were nominated plus her, actor the top 5 were nominated plus previous oscar winner joaquin phoenix who was 9th

supporting actress the top 5 were nominated plus pike who was 9th, supporting actor 6/6

director the top 5 were nominated plus lee who was 8th, screenplay the 6 were all in the top 8

With the old group, Joaquin Phoenix & Rosamund Pike getting in wouldn't have been eye-raising.

International voters have a strong influence at the Oscars too though. Anthony Hopkins wouldn't have won against Chadwick Boseman if there wasn't a strong European branch at the Academy imho. Same thing for surprise nominations like Parallel Mothers or the dominance of All Quiet on the Western Front last year.

Sure, but AMPAS still leans way more middlebrow and American in general. The Euro/international bloc(s) will pull through for surprise noms and upsets here and there at the Oscars, but I personally don't see a reason to take the Globes as being *that* indicative of AMAPS given the disparity in their voting bodies. Just for instance, the past two years they've been unable to "predict" the eventual BP winner despite split categories.

Imo, the Globes atp are good to get a temperature reading of the season and see who international voters are probably going for, but their winners and random snubs (specifically for stuff that's especially "American") need to be taken with a grain of salt

Just started to catch up with the movies of this awards season, watched 'Killers of the Flowers Moon' and it was literally amazing, it deserves all the praise it's getting, the cast and the acting performances were excellent, Lily Gladstone totally deserves the hype-praise, Di Caprio did an incredible performance as well along with De Niro, Scorsese truly did a brilliant job, I was kind of scared of the 3 hours and half lenght but there wasn't a single moment of boredom.

10/10 movie.

Just finished Lessons in Chemistry.  I just knew it would get nominations, so good!

Succession and The Bear are winning the best show categories.

Limited Series is harder for me to pick.  Obviously, I like LIC, but Fargo has been really good so far.  Fellow Travelers isn't bad either.  Hell, I even enjoyed All the Light We Cannot See.

Shrinking deserved more noms, imo.
