Dr. Alexander Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 How did The Color Purple miss out on Musical - Comedy? Even with Spielberg’s backing? I’m shocked.

Almodusa Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 The Color Purple misses NBR, AFI and the Golden Globes (Picture)
fridayteenage Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 i know the membership makeup changed a bunch since last time, but they've previously nominated, like mary poppins returns greatest showman babylon the prom sia's music etc in best comedy/musical...

But that’s a trailer… Side note, why is Margot even in the running for this award season? Her performance in Barbie wasn’t anything to write home about. Any actress could’ve pulled that role off. I’m confused. 1 1
WildAmerican Posted December 11, 2023 Author Posted December 11, 2023 (edited) the box office achievement category didn't the Oscars get torched for even suggesting that a few years ago Edited December 11, 2023 by WildAmerican 1

You got 36 actors nominated well on the supporting side, it sorta verifies the obvious top 6 for the men, and possibly the obvious top 5 for the women (minus saltburn)

They invited tons of European film critics this year and The Color Purple is something that they woulnd't be interested in

I’d be very surprised if she gets SAG, Bafta, Oscar noms.

Well the category is kinda strong this year...Barbie, May December, American fiction, Poor things and The Holdovers all fight for an Oscar Best Picture nomination. Even wonka didn't get it. It's not (still) in the real oscar conversations so doesn't mean it's over for it at The Oscars. Hidden Figures wasn't nominated at the GG (with a 25 dec release too) and then got a Best picture nominee
QueenofCopyPaste Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 I think Paul Giamatti is winning BA Musical/Comedy 1

vale9001 Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 How the "best box office" category works?. Same people voting for major category vote for that too? The category makes no sense when you have movies there are also in major categories
QueenofCopyPaste Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 POOR THINGS IS OVER PERFORMING WOW
QueenofCopyPaste Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 lots of SHOWY PERFORMANCES on both sides (ACTOR/ACTRESS) being nominated
