Only three times the NBR and NYFCC have had the same winner for Best Actress this century:

  • 2006: Helen Mirren for "The Queen" (won the Oscar)
  • 2007: Julie Christie for "Away from Her" (lost the Oscar to the dark horse Marion Cotillard)
  • 2023: Lily Gladstone for "Killers of the Flower Moon"

May have helped that les miz didn't have the shadow of a ten time Oscar nominated film as a comparison point

And Tom hooper was known well to Oscar voters already.

West side story got raves and still went down 90 percent in Oscar wins compared to the original
