Alyssa Edwards Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Just watched May December, the story is strong. Really interesting. But now that i've learned that it's based on real life events it does make it less impressive (and more gross)... NONE of the performances were particularly great. If I really had to pick who stood out to me the most it would be Julianne Moore's son from the other family. Must be a weak year if the actresses or Charles Melton gets in I'd give the movie a screenplay nom and keep it moving tbh.

McNulty Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 May December For all the praise on social media, I really thought it was gonna amaze me but idk it didn't click for me The Holdovers Felt like a warm holiday movie with great performances by the 3 leads
harwee Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 May December is solid. But I actually wanted them to go all in on that topic. They went a little safe actually. That said, Charles Melton is a standout. I can't remember from Riverdale if that's his acting style, like more nuanced and subdued, but its fitting with this role. That full frontal though, i'm shook. 2
Almodusa Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Lead Performance - Mia McKenna-Bruce (How to Have Sex) Joint Lead Performance - Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and George MacKay (Femme) Supporting Performance (Tie) - Paul Mescal (All of Us Strangers) & Shaun Thomas (How to Have Sex) Director - All of Us Strangers Screenplay - All of Us Strangers 1
Hector Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 All Of Us Strangers, this incredible film slaying already I at least know it'll do very well in BAFTA nominations. Still holding out hope it can get Picture and Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars Acting nominations will be hard though Scott, Foy, and Mescal absolutely deserve.

Alyssa Edwards Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 OMG ? "The Holdovers" was AWFUL What in the Disney Channel 90's movie was this sh%t ??? The writing was sh*t, the acting okay, the story was corny, VERY predictable, uninspired, bland... So far the only movie that gave me art was "Passages" and i doubt it's touching the Oscars. "Poor Things", "Anatomy Of A Fall" and "All Of Us Strangers" better deliver because otherwise this year is shaping up to be a massive flop. 2 3
Alyssa Edwards Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 The way i had to 2x speed watch 20% of the movie when i realized how genuinely bad it was. The cheesy humour i just- Miss Corona's effect on cinema is being felt i fear 1
Dark Phoenix Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 About May December: Quote This was a wild ride but I kinda expect the final act to go off harder, Natalie ate this role and I was so happy to see her bring her A game back! Julianne was good but the script didn't have her a lot of room to pull from. The score is amazing, dark, dramatic and I enjoyed every time it appeared. Overall a good approach into method acting and the way actors/actress take on a role. About The Holdovers: Quote What a joy this film was! It felt like a hug, or like a cold Saturday morning with a cup of hot chocolate and a blanket. The script is sharp, witty, smart but not in a Greta Gerwig know it all vibe characters, more like a dark comedy smart and Paul Giamatti nails every line, he was the soul of the film but the whole cast overall does an amazing job. And finally the beautiful aesthetic is mesmerizing, from the retro/vintage vibe to the film grain and then the winter photography with those deep whites, what a beautiful film, an instant Xmas classic. Also, All of us Strangers is this year’s Aftersun in the way that the British are pushing the film everywhere but in the end it will only result in a nom for Andrew Scott (and he won’t even win because there have been better male performances this year) Feel free to follow me and share your Letterboxd users!
