Alyssa Edwards Posted March 9 Posted March 9 I'm shook that i have to swallow the fact that Oppenheimer is winning Best Picture. Can't believe things like Roma or even The Power Of The Dog were too long, boring, auteur-y for the academy members but THIS was somehow entertaining to most of them. Awful winner. 5

Eóghan Posted March 10 Posted March 10 for the people who watched a few or most the BP nominees this year, what would be your personal ranking? a ranking based purely on your personal taste, not who you think will/should win tomorrow. my top 3 hasn't changed for a few months now but i decided to re-watch all 3 this week, "Poor Things" was #1 all season but after the re-watch i decided to switch it with "Anatomy of a Fall" which aged like fine wine. unfortunately the many sex scenes throughout the movie have taken a bit of a toll on "PT"s rewatchability, far from me being a prude but i'm neither a hetero or voyeuristic, so it's not exactly what draws me in this otherwise excellent movie. and tbh i genuinely think if Yorgos had scaled back on that aspect of the movie, it would've been the strongest contender to Oppenheimer this year. so final ranking before we move to the new season 1. Anatomy of a Fall 2. Poor Things 3. Past Lives 4. The Holdovers 5. American Fiction 6. Barbie 7. Killers of the Flower Moon 8. The Zone of Interest 9. Oppenheimer 10. Maestro i'm surprised that legacy directors like Nolan/Scorsese are ranking in the lower half but despite being perfectly good movies, i can't help but think that they're somewhat safe, oscar-baity and pretentiously long movies catering to the ego of their directors more than anything which is in great contrast to a rather refreshing and exciting BP line up this year.
Alyssa Edwards Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Don't feel like ranking them since i haven't seen American Fiction or Killers but Anatomy >>>>>>>>>>>>> The rest. I'll give Maestro and Zone some props for serving art at some points though. The two worst are Oppenheimer and The Holdovers, truly the pits.
Alyssa Edwards Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I enjoyed Poor Things while i was watching it but i feel like it might be a film i'll never watch again. It's kind of serving nice production design, beautiful production design in my mind. Not much to feast on on a second watch.
McNulty Posted March 10 Posted March 10 my final ranking: 1. Killers of the Flower Moon 2. Oppenheimer 3. Poor Things 4. Anatomy of a Fall 5. The Holdovers 6. Barbie 7. American Fiction 8. Past Lives 9. The Zone of Interest 10. Maestro Maestro is the only film I didn't like, terrible screenplay/writing
Life Savers Posted March 10 Posted March 10 (edited) I saw them all and I'd have Anatomy/Poor as my personal top 2. Followed by Killers, Oppenheimer, Barbie. I didn't like Maestro and I find Past Lives to be very overrated. Edited March 10 by Life Savers
Hector Posted March 10 Posted March 10 01 Poor Things 02 Anatomy Of A Fall 03 Past Lives 04 Barbie 05 Maestro 06 American Fiction 07 The Holdovers 08 Killers Of The Flower Moon 09 Oppenheimer (but I've conditioned myself to accepting the BP win) 10 The Zone Of Interest
Donquizote Posted March 10 Posted March 10 01 Past Lives 02 Oppenheimer 03 The Holdovers 04 Anatomy of a Fall 05 Poor Things 06 American Fiction 07 Killers of the Flower Moon 08 Barbie 09 The Zone of Interest 10 Cheap Tar
karlo_98 Posted March 10 Posted March 10 1. Oppenheimer 2. Past Lives 3. Poor Things 4. Anatomy of A Fall 5. The Holdovers 6. Barbie 7. Killers of the Flower Moon 8. The Zone of Interest 9. American Fiction 10. Maestro

Konril Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Personal ranking of Best Picture: 1. Poor Things 2. Past Lives 3. Oppenheimer 4. Killers of the Flower Moon 5. Anatomy of a Fall 6. American Fiction 7. The Zone of Interest 8. The Holdovers 9. Barbie 10. Maestro Rooting for Poor Things
Mordecai Posted March 10 Posted March 10 The way I planned to watch all these movies back in February and didn't end up watching any of them The Oscars are also only being streamed on Disney+ in my country and they're stingy and don't do free trials so... looks like I'll be watching the highlights on YT
Alex21kw Posted March 10 Posted March 10 1. Past Lives 2. Oppenheimer 3. Anatomy of a Fall 4. Killers of the Flower Moon 5. Poor Things 6. Zone of Interest 7. Barbie 8. American Fiction Haven't seen the Holdovers or Maestro but something tells me Maestro would be number 10 and the top 5 would not change
Donquizote Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Holdovers is a cute movie but I dont understand Giamatti's hype and why pundits really want him to win
WildAmerican Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 Today's the day!! Anyone have any bold predictions? I'm thinking Zone of Interest in Sound!
Donquizote Posted March 10 Posted March 10 My bold prediction: Boy and Heron Diane Warren Red, White and Blue Past Lives for BP
NEX Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Everyone ranking The Zone of Interest so low!! Such a remarkable movie and a fresh new angle on the Holocaust, showing how mundane and heartless it was for the people involved in the killings of hundreds of thousands literally next door. How easily conditioned we become to death and violence if it doesn't affect us personally, and how we just brush it off to focus on our regular day to day despite what's going on around us.
