Dark Miracles Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Dumb move by AACTA. Margot has so much momentum for her next worthy performance and they waste a win on her now?

fridayteenage Posted February 10 Posted February 10 in all likelihood, next month it will remain true that 5 of the last 10 supporting actress winners are woc. australia in the last 10 years had 5 woc nominees in supporting (10%). not the same 5 either. davis, harris, blige, hsu, randolph while King/Youn/Debose were snubbed.
Hector Posted February 10 Posted February 10 And those winners are proof as to why AACTA will never be a main precursor 1

Donquizote Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Weird that Giamatti not nominated for AACTA this year. Usually winner for Best Actor at Oscar is nominated for AACTA.
WildAmerican Posted February 10 Author Posted February 10 (edited) Interesting video! I like the legacy award idea, really speaks to the fact that the Oscars are a snapshot in time, and a legacy award could award something that's stood the test of time Edited February 10 by WildAmerican

Price of Fame Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Please stop taking AACTA that seriously At best it is a very minor indicator of what BAFTA might look like (and even this year obviously not with them going so hard for local Robbie’s movie) 1 1

Donquizote Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I'm thinking Giamatti is not locked for Oscar. Cillian can sneak and that that trophy from him.

I like the legacy award idea, really speaks to the fact that the Oscars are a snapshot in time, and a legacy award could award something that's stood the test of time I think I disagreed with almost every suggestion aside from the stunt category and campaign finance reform. There’s no way a legacy award would satisfy anyone, and he says they shouldn’t show clips of past movies, yet wants an entire new award for a ten year old movie? It just seems like it’ll make AMPAS okay with rewarding safe options for BP in the present if they can award other movies in ten years.
Liafen Posted February 11 Posted February 11 The campaign finance reform is actually the dumbest one. I mean, I get the underlying idea behind it, but there's no way to regulate it when most studios just would say that it is a general marketing spend for the movie, not for awards season. And famous people needing to "register" their parties over 25 invitees? Be for real.

Donquizote Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Bafta next week. I need them to shake up the award season Give unexpected win please.
truthteller Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Finally watched two more Best Picture nominees... The Zone of Interest - very stylistic, very haunting, and disgusting I may say.... the camera movement (or the lack of), the sound effect, the parallel events happening in the background, and the absurdity of the family, especially the wife and the kids... even though I feel like it is more of an artsy farsty stylistic concept more than a compelling storyline considering it being a 90+ mins feature film... the present day shots are very genius.. tho i think it may be better as a short film instead American Fiction - it's a cute movie with a bit pacing issue in the middle... glad with the little LGBTQ+ element in the plot for representation. Anyways, it feels like a lot of "been there done there" satire / dark comedy concepts in the past few years that did not shine the light as bright as its predecessors, say the horror staple "Get Out" or the online film circle's darling "Sorry To Bother You". 1
