And Whoopi was ACTUALLY snubbed. The people acting like this was the greatest injustice in the history of cinema are annoying

The Lost Daughter 21

Pieces of a Woman 20

Marriage Story 19

Roma 18

Lady Bird 17

Elle 16

45 Years 15

Thank God the SAG had the decency to not nominate America Ferrera, cause if I had to sit and watch another Jamie Li type of sweep

Jei Mi Li Curtis won because there wasn't a clear frontrunner. Three different actresses  won Golden Globe, SAG and BAFTA last year

This year Supporting Actress is the biggest lock of the acting categories

Could Paul Giamatti pull a surprise win?

Goldderby has it as the frontruuner in their predictions odds

I'll call it for him if he wins SAG though I still think Cillian takes BAFTA.

Well it's not really a surprise if he's the frontrunner on Goldderby lol. Maybe a surprise to the GP only.

Could you imagine the incels’ reaction if Triet wins over Nolan? :ryan3:

The Margot snub in best actress would have been understandable if Greta Lee or fantasia or Natalie was nominated but Anette being there over Margot ? Yeah then Margot definitely shoulda made it over Anette cause that’s an embarrassing performance :giraffe:

He has really made a case so I'm not surprised at the rise. I'd say Cillian is still favored because of the overall Oppie love, though. SAG will be most indicative.

I just watched Monster, it was such an amazing heartbreaking movie, Japan should've chosen it instead of Perfect Days. Like ofc Perfect days deserves its nomination (and Koji Yakusho should've been nominated for Best Actor) but Monster could've been stronger if the academy members watched it maybe it'd have gotten a Best Original Screenplay nomination.

Anette Benning made it because her Nyad role is baity, and transformational

AMPAS loves that ****

Plus, she's also well beloved among generations of actors, she herself is in an acting family Dynasty and is overdue for another win/nomination

variety's super early predictions from march:

For BP they got 50% right which is pretty solid that far in advance.

For Actress they got Bening/Mulligan/Stone; interestingly, Huller was an alternate but in Zone. And Gladstone they had as the Supporting winner instead. So they came close to predicting all of them by name.

For Actor they only got Giamatti, but had Cooper/Domingo/Murphy as backups. No Wright.

For S Actress they got Brooks/Randolph. And *technically* they had Ferrera, just for a different film! Foster was a backup. Oddly, no Blunt.

She made points but Whoopi is such a hypocrite.

She was clearly pressed when Danielle was snubbed last year :bibliahh:

I wonder how Blunt will feel losing to an “enormous” woman :skull:

I imagine she's fine, finally getting first nom after her breakout 17 years ago, edging out scarjo waiting 16 years between her breakout and first nom

Saw American Fiction tonight! Certainly on the lower end of my Best Picture tier, but it was still pretty good

Sterling was giving nothing tho, how was he nominated :rip:

Yes and no. Based on the reporting, many in the directors branch did seem to be actively rejecting Greta for making an extremely commercial movie.

Zone of Interest and All of Us Strangers are finally showing in my city here in Canada! Can’t wait to see one or both this weekend.

Multiple Best Actress wins by 1 director, *if the director was nominated too:

Blue Jasmine, Annie Hall*

Reader*, Hours*

As Good As It Gets, Terms of Endearment*

Sophie’s Choice, Klute

Norma Rae, Hud*

Born Yesterday*, Gaslight

Great Ziegfeld*, Divorcee*

Butterfield 8, Rose Tattoo, Come Back Little Sheba

Funny Girl, Roman Holiday*, Heiress*, Mrs Miniver*, Jezebel

Very weird combo of directors who on multiple occasions directed an Actress winner while personally being nominated: Stephen Daldry, Robert Z Leonard, William Wyler.

Lanthimos could join them.
