ALittleGauche Posted January 24 Posted January 24 4 hours ago, teresaguidice said: i know melton's chances have been shot for weeks and sessa was a complete outlier longshot, but i do find it kind of bizarre how the academy loves a newcomer or young ingenue narrative for actress/supporting actress but will only take up for veterans in the actor/supporting actor. Isn’t this just reflective of our patriarchal society?
Tusk Posted January 24 Posted January 24 8 hours ago, ALA said: Margot's performance in Barbie is fundamental to the movie. America Ferrrera getting a nom but not her is embarassing. She did nothing. Ferrera and Crazy Barbie did all the pull at the end of the movie. Margot was in the background. The movie was just okay. The directing was just okay too so I can see the snub. The shots of John Cena and Dua were so poorly done.
LastKiss Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Nominations mess aside the only real race is in the best actress category, the other ones are already done and ready to go

TheDreamer Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Nolan going from 0 Oscars to potentially 3 Oscars in one night is insane. It's what he deserves! 1
Donquizote Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Bradley is still working hard to get that Oscar win for Maestro me thinks
Into The Void Posted January 24 Posted January 24 (edited) I think America Ferrera deserved her nom, I was very pleased with her performance tho I think Julianne Moore and Rosamund Pike were snubbed ngl I only seen Holdover, May December, Saltburn and Barbie I wanna watch Poor Things next. I love Emma. Id watch Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon but 3 hrs is way too damn long can we cut these films short sheesh Edited January 24 by Insanity
paperfectdelusion Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I'm glad that Academy seemed recognised the beauty of Anatomy of a Fall, film like this might not be making millions but they pushed the envelope As for the Margot snub, I believed a lot of voters in acting branch placed her in 4th or 5th place which result in the snub, it is just not an outstanding performance for competitive year. 1
ALittleGauche Posted January 24 Posted January 24 (edited) Just saw Anatomy of a Fall. Sandra Huller ate. This debuts in my top 5 films of the year, and is one of the strongest among the Best Picture nominees. Spoiler I STILL DON’T KNOW IF SHE DID IT Edited January 24 by ALittleGauche 2

OnlyManInTheWorld Posted January 24 Posted January 24 (edited) I personally wouldn’t nominate Margot either. There were simply much better performances than hers. She wasn’t even the best thing about her own movie. Neither was America, her nomination for that monologue is a mess. And what makes it funnier - she still executed it 10x better than that painfully bad Laura Dern few years ago Right now Sandra Huller is my favorite to win. She was absolutely incredible in The Anatomy of a Fall and also has The Zone of Interest to push her to the win. I know it’s gonna be Lily or Emma though. For the last few months I’ve had this feeling The Holdovers might pull a Green Book and snatch the BP. I’m also not ruling out Paul Giamatti. Haven’t seen the movie yet though. Is it really that good? Edited January 24 by OnlyManInTheWorld
OnlyManInTheWorld Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Also - Bradley Cooper was painfully AWFUL in Maestro. Kudos to Carey Mulligan for saving the movie from a total disaster. 1 1
Cain Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Also Ferrera was awful in Barbie, her acting didn’t land, she was cringe. Like I can get the Margot snub but to say Ferrera was better than her in that movie is WILD
